An adventure of luck and love, Aladdin's Luck takes a mischievous young man on not one, but two journeys, each 1001 days and nights long, in order to first find magic, and then find love.

Aladdin's Luck runs in Imagination Stage's Annette M. and Theodore N. Lerner Family Theatre September 23 through October 30. Appropriate for ages 4 and up, tickets are $10 to $22, and may be purchased online at www.imaginationstage.org, at the Imagination Stage box office, or via phone at 301-280-1660. Group rates are available.

The clever street urchin Aladdin falls madly for the Princess Leilah when they meet by chance at the bazaar. Determined to impress her, he embarks on a search for fortune and instead finds a dingy oil lamp. But this is no ordinary lamp; it houses a magical genie who helps Aladdin masquerade as a grand emir to win the Princesses' hand. Leilah, however, fell for the street urchin, not the grand emir. Frustrated that Aladdin won't admit who he really is, she gives the lamp to an unscrupulous magician and ends up his prisoner. Aladdin must travel across the desert to rescue her by doing the thing that scares him the most...being himself.

Written by Janet Stanford, Artistic Director for Imagination Stage, with music by renowned Turkish composer and performer Fahir Atakoglu, Aladdin's Luck had its world premiere at Imagination Stage in 2002. Adapted from the classic tale The Arabian Nights, the multi-media production includes audience participation and music that incorporates traditional Middle Eastern instruments. Associate Artistic Director Kathryn Chase Bryer directs.

Chris Wilson, most recently seen as Mole in The Wind in the Willows will play Aladdin. Chris' credits also include Junglebook, Looking for Roberto Clemente, Heidi and The Dancing Princesses. Michael Glenn, fresh from Woolly Mammoth's remount of Clybourne Park, returns to Imagination Stage to play the evil villain Al Zarnati (as well as the Sultan). Michael was last at Imagination Stage playing Mr. Grumps in the very popular Lyle the Crocodile. Imagination Stage newcomer Katie DuBuys (Woolly Mammoth's In the Next Room) will play Leilah the princess (as well as a handful of other characters).

Director Kathryn Chase Bryer says, "We are really excited to revisit this show in our Lerner Family Theatre. The show will be great fun with fast costume and character changes and a large projection component that will include a Genie and a flying carpet on the big screen. The sumptuous set design by Elizabeth McFadden will feature Moroccan lamps hanging from the light grid and authentic oriental rugs overlapping on the floor. And we are thrilled to have Costume Designer Katie Touart (The Wind in the Willows) creating beautiful Middle Eastern attire."

The 2011-12 season continues with Dr. Dolittle (Nov. 22-Jan. 8), P.Nokio (Feb. 1-March 11), Rapunzel (Apr. 4-May 20), and The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe (June 20-Aug. 12). Subscriptions are now available at 301-280-1660 or www.imaginationstage.org.
