York Little Theatre and Baltimore's Denny & Lee Magic Studio are presenting a rare opportunity to see many of the region's top magicians perform at one event. A Night of Magic and Wonder was the brainchild of magician and actor Casey McMillion, who is the coordinator and director of the event. "I have three passions in life: acting, magic and music. York Little Theatre is the place where I got my start; where I spent countless hours and made a number of friends. Denny & Lee is where I crafted my love for magic and illusion. Both businesses are hurting in these hard economic times and I wanted to do something that would not only raise money but also raise awareness of the value of community theatre and the extraordinary world of magic," says McMillion.
A Night of Magic and Wonder will be held on Saturday, November 13, at York Little Theatre. The doors open at 7:00 p.m. with strolling magicians, including York's Tim Storey, amazing audiences in the lobby. The show begins at 8:00 and includes magicians George Gilbert, David Breth, Malakin Riverstone, Mike Thomas, and Scotty Walsh. "The response from the magic community has been great," explains McMillion. "These are some of the areas best magicians performing together for a great cause."
Scotty Walsh from Baltimore has played in cabarets and clubs around the world. He has worked as a circus instructor at the Seattle School for Acrobatics and New Circus Arts, as a guest artist at the Denver School for the Arts and as a full-time street performer in the French Quarter and the Historic Pike Place Market. Seattle Weekly has lisTEd Scotty as "Seattle's Best Street Performer." David Breth has been performing professionally for more than 7 years and entertains with his unique blend of family fun, comedy, magic and audience participation. A hilarious performer, David dazzles audiences with his effects, charisma and charm. Maryland -based festival entertainer, magician, comedian, and fire-eater George Gilbert has been touring the streets of America since 2006, performing his street theatre comedy magic show for tens of thousands of audience members. Gilbert was voted Best Magic Show in Ocean City, 2009. Malakin Riverstone is from the Dillsburg area and has amazed and entertained audiences across the country; and magician Mike Thomas is a regular performer at Pennsylvania's Renaissance Fair at the Mount Hope Estate and Winery.
All proceeds for the evening will be divided between York Little Theatre and Denny & Lee Magic Studio. York Little Theatre is the area's oldest and largest community theatre. Says McMillion, "As a child I loved attending magic shows. I would go home and imitate the magicians by throwing bed sheets over the family cat and pretending to make him disappear. The doors open at 7:00, and the main show starts at 8:00. Tickets are $20, all reserved..
