2018/19 Hippodrome Broadway Series to Include HAMILTON and More Image

Ron Legler, President of the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center, home of the Hippodrome Theatre, has announced the lineup of shows for the new 2018/19 Hippodrome Broadway Series. With seven shows direct from Broadway and two Season Options, the season is anchored by the Baltimore premiere of HAMILTON, in addition to new musicals, Blockbuster Tony Award-winners and returning audience favorites.

The season kicks off with the return of Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon

LES MISERABLES (Season Option), followed by the revived classic from Tony-winning director Bartlett Sher, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. Ringing in the holiday season is the premiere of the new Broadway musical inspired by the beloved films, ANASTASIA. Leading off 2019 are Broadway's smash hit musical Roald Dahl's CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY and winner of the 2015 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival, Rodgers & Hammerstein's THE KING AND I. Then in April, back by popular demand as a Season Option, is the nine-time Tony Award-winning Best Musical THE BOOK OF MORMON. The remarkable, inspired-by-true events musical COME FROM AWAY, finishes out the month. Fresh from its widely successful run on London's West End and Broadway, THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG will take the Hippodrome stage in June.

HAMILTON will close out the season with a four-week engagement. HAMILTON is the story of America's Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington's right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and was the new nation's first Treasury Secretary. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B, and Broadway, HAMILTON is the story of America then, told by America now.

Current subscribers may renew their season subscription beginning today, January 17, 2018 at 11 a.m. EST. A limited number of new subscriptions will go on sale in mid-March before single tickets become available to the general public.

"When the Hippodrome Theatre transitioned to a one-week subscription market, we promised to deliver the very best touring shows Broadway has to offer. We are thrilled to deliver on that promise again as we announce what will be the most successful season in our history," said Legler. "We are grateful for the continued support of our patrons and look forward to sharing our biggest season ever with our dedicated subscribers."

Set in 1860's Bangkok, the musical tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher whom the modernist King, in an imperialistic world, brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children.
