The Vagabond Players, the oldest continuously operating little theater in the United States, opens its 94th season on Friday, September 4th with The Cocktail Hour by A. R. Gurney, one of the most prolific playwrights in America. A deliciously funny and occasionally touching play, The Cocktail Hour, directed by Roy Hammond, runs thru Sunday, September 27.

Set in upstate New York in the mid-1970s, this witty and urbane production follows John, a playwright who returns home to get his family's permission to produce a new play he's written about them. But his stuffy upper-class parents have concerns, as does his self-centered sister - who wants a bigger role! The confrontation spills over into the cocktail hour, when recriminations (and martinis) start to flow.

By one of America's favorite playwrights, The Cocktail Hour won the 1989 Lucille Lortel Award as Best Off-Broadway Play and the 1988-1989 OBIE Award for Nancy Marchand's performance as Ann.

Featured in the Vagbond's production are Blaise D'Ambrosio, Joan Crooks, Denis Latkowski, and Janise Whelan. Showtimes are Friday and Saturday at 8pm, Sundays at 2pm. For further information, season subscriptions, and ticket reservations, please call the box office at 410-563-9135 or go to the Vags website, www.vagabondplayers.org.

The Vagabond Theater is located in historic Fells Point at 806 S. Broadway.
