Hooks Wins Poetry AwardFebruary 20, 2013University Press of Kentucky author bell hooks has been named as the recipient of the 2013 Black Caucus of the American Library Association's Best Poetry Award for her book Appalachian Elegy: Poetry and Place. The BCALA Literary Awards recognize excellence in adult fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and publishing by African American authors published during the previous year, including an award for Best Poetry and a citation for Outstanding Contribution to Publishing. The award will be presented at the Annual Conference of the American Library Association in Chicago, Illinois on June 30.

Working in teams and housed in specially constructed quintessential New England two story cottages each equipped with a piano, the teams worked on over 30 musicals during the course of the month. On Saturday February 16, the residency program concluded with a Salon as had been done each week featuring a sparkling sampler of new musicals that were worked on throughout the month. New York Philharmonic Announces Details of Worldwide Radio BroadcastsFebruary 15, 2013The March broadcasts of The New York Philharmonic This Week — the weekly radio series of concerts and recordings by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by Alec Baldwin — begin with Music Director Alan Gilbert conducting the New York Philharmonic in Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 2, featuring Rudolf Buchbinder as soloist, and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6, Pathétique.
