Emmy and Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth's performance originally scheduled for Wednesday, June 20 has been cancelled due to illness and instead will be performed on Thursday, June 28, at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center's Andrew Jackson Hall.

On Thursday, March 1, Sophia Salveson-at 19, a college student (at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago) and an aspiring actress-suffered a massive stroke that left her with little to no movement on the right side of her body and major damage to the speech and comprehension center of her brain. Taking her family and friends completely unawares, Salveson's sudden and unexpected medical dilemma sent feelings of shock, dismay and disbelief throughout the country, with its reverberations felt most resoundingly in her hometown of Nashville, where word quickly spread around town and among members of the city's music and theater communities that she had been stricken.

Shows are opening and closing all over Tennessee this summer and theater companies are offering up all manner of fun and games, which means there's all sorts of foolishness going on backstage during intermission. Among the best attended and best reviewed productions of 2012 is Boiler Room Theatre's next to normal (which closes tonight, June 16), directed by Jamey Green and featuring a cast that includes Megan Murphy Chambers, Mike Baum, Kevin Mead, Paige Brouillette, Jordan Ravellette and Ben Van Diepen.

Set in 1976, Ralph Pape's Say Goodnight, Gracie deftly blends wistful nostalgia with tinges of regret that always tend to surface when you're faced with a high school reunion. And smoking pot; smoking pot makes anything seem more complex and redolent with hidden meaning and deeper regret than when you're thinking about them straight. I say this from personal experience. I did not, however, inhale.

Today the spotlight falls upon the lovely JJ Rodgers, who this past season appeared in A Christmas Carol at Hendersonville's Actors Point Theatre and Elvis Has Left the Building at Chaffin's Barn Dinner Theatre, quickly becoming one of Nashville's most sought-after actors (she's already taken Memphis by storm while working at Tennessee Shakespeare Company there). Currently, she's appearing in Mel O'Drama Theatre's touring production of The Altos-A Little Lower Than The Sopranos, an interactive murder-mystery comedy/drama show that is being performed throughout the region. Oozing charm and brimming over with sex appeal and an overabundance of stage presence, Under the Streetlamp-the quartet (Michael Ingersoll, Michael Cunio, Shonn Wiley and Christopher Kale Jones) that somehow manages to capture the sounds of multiple generations in their polished act, one that has delighted PBS pledge drive supporters for some time now-took to the stage of the Polk Theatre for a concert of pop music standards, a tuneful blend they quite appropriately call "The American Radio Songbook."

Neil Simon's God's Favorite is the next production from Hendersonville's Actors Point Theatre Company, running tonight, June 15 through jUne 24 at the company's new venue at GodsWhy (across from Glenbrook shopping center). God's Favorite is Simon's retelling of the biblical story of Job with a modern-day setting and characters based in Long Island, New York.

Timing just seems right for the four men who make up Under the Streetlamp-the quartet that's taking American stages by storm this summer-to share their mantra that "retro never sounded so now!" with the legions of fans of "The American Radio Songbook of the '50's, '60's and '70's" while bringing a whole new audience over to their side of the musical dial. The four-Christopher Kale Jones, Shonn Wiley and the two Michaels: Cunio and Ingersoll-will be singing to the faithful when their first national tour brings them to Nashville's Tennessee Performing Arts Center for a June 14 performance (curtain's at 7:30 p.m.) at the James K. Polk Theatre.
