Hi! My name is Kylien Clark; I'm an architecture major with a minor in theater at the University of Miami. I decided I wanted to do architecture at a young age due to my imagination of creative buildings and passion for art. I've loved Broadway since I can remember as part of my elementary production of Seussical the Musical. Through the years, I became enamored with musicals such as Wicked, Hamilton, SIX, RENT, In The Heights, Waitress, Hadestown, and more. I'm so excited to be a student blogger on the Broadway World Team and to elaborate on topics revolving around musical theatre.

Favorite Show:
My favorite show is Wicked; it's truly a timeless tale that got into the world of musical theatre. I remember when I was 13 and I walked into the Gershwin Theatre for the first time and it changed my life. I still remember the architectural details that it consisted of before you got to your seats. Such as the map of Munchkin Land as you go up the stairs, the glittering emeralds placed around the lights, and the Dorothy Strelsin Collection. The Gershwin Theatre is the perfect home for Wicked. Its values transport guests to their seats with memories they'll never forget. From this, I was inspired to put my architectural interests towards something I love: Broadway!
Favorite Stories:
- Wicked Movie: First Look - This is one of my favorite articles because when the news of the "Wicked: First Look" came out I was in shambles of happiness, after waiting so long for a production of this cinematic I was so excited to see the video. Once I did I felt so touched, as if I was 13 again walking into the Gershwin Theatre and feeling everything all over again. I am ecstatic about this release coming this Thanksgiving!
- Hadestown: Lillias White as Missus Hermes - As known in Greek mythology gender is fluid and never embedded but when creating a storyline those will label who should be who. When I saw the announcement of Lillias White to be the new Harmes in the production Hadestown, my mind was broken. Knowing her talent and already imagining how well she would embrace this character and more importantly put her spin on it. This touch I found truly beautiful to read because it felt like a representation that a character is defined by talent not appearance and gave an homage to the realm of Greek mythology.
- Mamma Mia: Anniversary Tour - As I was understanding the world of musical theatre I was able to bond with my mother through the production of "Mamma Mia". We sang the songs together but never had the chance to see them together. I saw it in a local production by "Plays in the Park" in 2018 with my aunt and uncles and hoped there would be a tour so I could share it with my mom. Now with the 25th anniversary tour, Mamma Mia will be coming through North America allowing sharing it with my mom!
- Tick Tick Boom Release - Tick Tick Boom is one of my favorite musicals because it derives from the mind of Jonathan Larson. I see Jonathan Larson as one of the greatest theatrical minds that was gone too soon. He was able to see the future of not only Broadway but the MTV generation. Being familiar with Lin Manuel Miranda and his phenomenal work in the musical "Hamilton", I knew Tick Tick Boom was in the right hands. I was immediately obsessed with the trailer as it featured the song "30/90" and "Louder Than Words". Ever since I saw a local production of "RENT" I have always been so grateful for the imagination of Jonathan Larson and his talent of lyrical and instrumental composition to this day astounds me. To see his legacy carry onto this generation gives me such pride to be in the industry.
- Female Rage: The Musical, Copyright - Being a swiftie comes with surprises left and right, always expecting the unexpected from Taylor Swift. By adding her latest project "The Tortured Poets Department" to the Eras Tour as the "Female Rage: The Musical". As a theatre lover at the same time left my jaw on the floor. I attended the Eras Tour on the third night in Tampa and since then there have been two changes to the setlist, the most effective and intricate being the new seven songs added from "The Tortured Poets Department". Additionally, the new mashup feature in the acoustic surprise song set. I theorize what this copyright application could mean for future projects and am excited to find out.
