A slow burning track, “True” faces down hopelessness and despair head on. Elfman’s vocals are gritty and growling here, and his raw unfiltered delivery only adds to the emotionally charged atmosphere.

The song was written and recorded by John whilst he was ‘in isolation’ in Florida, and he took hope and inspiration from watching the sunrise every morning over ‘Cocahatchee Bay’. For John, the song is a reminder that we can choose to see the world, and the challenges we all face, in a positive way…  because the sun will shine again.

Filming took place during the pandemic with production closely following Covid-19 protocols. The series was shot throughout the country including historical locations in Jerusalem, Safed, and other cities. 

Cleverly constructed imagery illustrating the song’s narrative accompanies the track, presenting another piece of the aural landscape of Surrounded By Time.

The San Diego based band, Jus Goodie, is led by band leaders Jus Goodie and Zan. Together with their band, they combine the elements of modern and vintage reggae, rock, Motown soul, and classic R&B to form music rooted in messages of liberation and love.

“This Killing Floor” is bookended by “You Load The Gun,” a song about heartbreak in the context of murder, but from a less vengeful headspace.

Inspired by a song of the same name that was recorded in the 1930s by actor and singer Dame Gracie Fields, which was covered by Lucas’ great uncle song during the 1950s. After finding this out from his grandmother, the singer decided the poignancy of its words were worthy of titling Holding Absence’s next record.
