On June 18, 1983 Dr. Sally Ride, an accomplished astronaut and physicist, became the first American woman in space as a crew member on Space Shuttle Challenger for STS-7. Now, playwright Liza Birkenmeier uses this unforgettable time in history as the backdrop for her latest production. Birkenmeier took the time to chat with BroadwayWorld about the upcoming show.

They say art imitates life, and Paul David Young is no stranger to this.

It's true what they say; the classics never do go out of style. That's particularly true with 1927's The Jazz Singer. The first feature-length 'sound film,' Alan Crosland's The Jazz Singer made history with its use of synchronized sound, however it's also remembered for its controversial use of blackface.
