Troy Schumacher, Director of BalletCollective (formerly Satellite Ballet) today announced that the company will make its Joyce Theater debut on August 14 and 15 with a program that will include a world premiere collaboration between Schumacher, composer Ellis Ludwig-Leone, poet Cynthia Zarin and new music ensemble ACME, as well as a revised version of the company's Epistasis (2012). In other news, seven company dancers will be featured in the spring issue of Carine Roitfeld's new high gloss magazine, CR Fashion Book. An online film featuring dancers Ashley Laracey, Lauren King, David Applebaum and Taylor Stanley will be released in conjunction with the magazine release.

Phillips, Jr. to perform new works commissioned for this year's Ecstatic Music Festival,presented by Kaufman Music Center at Merkin Concert Hall. Uzuri will premiere an original multi-voice and multi-instrument musical suite, Placeless, performed by Imani Uzuri, Numinous, and featuring very special guests including harpist Brandee A. Younger. The compositions explore the expansive themes of home and “place” inspired by the Psalms, the writings of Sufi mystic and poet Rumi and the folk hymnody African-American Spirituals.

Critically acclaimed artist Kara Walker has, over the years, pursued the silhouette's implications and transformations in paintings, drawings, collages, shadow puppets, cut steel, film and video animations, and 'magic-lantern' projections. She returns to her signature cut-paper silhouettes in monumental form for a new site-specific, commissioned work titled Rise Up Ye Mighty Race! (2013), created specifically for the Art Institute of Chicago. The room installation--on view from February 21 through August 11, 2013, in Gallery 293 of the Modern Wing--will include five large-framed graphite drawings and 40 small-framed, mixed-media drawings along with the cut paper silhouettes.

With bullying such a growing "epidemic" that is impacting children at younger and younger ages, the JCC Teen Department holding a teen leadership conference for middle school students that will be dedicated to the pressing topic of bullying. At the conference, which is scheduled for Friday, March 1, 2013, 8:30am - 1pm, The Elisabeth Morrow School students who attend will have a unique opportunity to learn more about the dangers of bullying, hear personal stories from teens who have been victims of bullying, and gain a deeper understanding of the emotional scarring that such experiences cause. The goal is to make younger teens "aware" and to inspire them to believe that they can personally make a difference and bring about social change.
