Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson Donate Cash Gift to Great Lakes Theater Festival's Hanna Theatre CampaignJanuary 27, 2010Great Lakes Theater Festival (GLTF) alumnus, and two-time Oscar award-winner, Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson made a significant gift to the Festival over the holidays enabling the company to successfully achieve its Re-Imagine a Classic Campaign fundraising goal. Hanks has served as the Honorary Chair of the fundraising efforts to ‘re-imagine' the Hanna Theatre as the new home for the Festival and to establish an endowment for the classic theater company since 2008. Although the amount of the gift is confidential, the donation will be used to create a permanent endowment to support Festival artists called The Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson Fund for Artists.

Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts presents a week of musical theater cabaret on the Millennium Stage from February 8-13, 2010 at 6 p.m. 'Broadway Today and Tomorrow,' curated by Michael Kerker and ASCAP, highlights up-and-coming composers at the piano with rising stars singing their works that are becoming the 'new standards' of Broadway. Featured artists include: Peter Mills with Kate Baldwin and Matt Cavanaugh (Feb. 8); Ryan Scott Oliver with Jay Armstrong Johnson, Alex Brightman, and Lindsay Mendez (Feb. 9); Steven Lutvak (Feb. 10); Alan Schmuckler and Michael Mahler with Abby Mueller (Feb. 11); Jordan Beck and Jonathan May with Mazie Wilson and Baraka May Williams (Feb. 12); and Valerie Vigoda and Brendan Milburn (Feb. 13). The Grand Foyer will be transformed into a cabaret as tables and chairs are arranged in front of the stage and drinks from the Foyer bars are available.

Casting Complete for Theater Latte Da’a VIOLET; Azudi Onyejekwe Joins CastJanuary 25, 2010Theater Latté Da today announced that Azudi Onyejekwe will join the cast of Violet in the role of Flick, the young black soldier who teaches Violet (played by Children's Theatre Company childhood star Britta Ollmann) about beauty, courage and what it means to be an outsider. A recent graduate of the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, Onyejekwe makes his Twin Cities theater debut in the production, directed by Peter Rothstein and featuring a score by Tony Award nominee Jeanine Tesori, the composer whose music brought Tony Kushner's book and lyrics for Caroline, or Change to life. Onyejekwe's musical credits also include Pippin, Into the Woods, Jesus Christ Superstar and, most recently, Once On This Island at the Cortland Repertory Theatre in upstate New York.
