In the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES star Christian Bale chatted about a previous gig- starring in the original movie version of Newsies back in 1992. Bale said of the new Broadway show: 'They're having the success our movie never had. I'm not really into musicals. But I wish them the best.'

New York City Center's acclaimed production of Duke Ellington's Cotton Club Parade will return to City Center for seven performances from November 14-18, 2012. Conceived by Jack Viertel and presented under the auspices of City Center's Tony Award-winning Encores! series, Cotton Club Parade will once again be directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, with music direction by Jazz at Lincoln Center Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis. The show will feature the Jazz at Lincoln Center All Stars under the direction of Daryl Waters.

The best of Broadway will be presented FREE on six consecutive Thursdays this summer with "106.7 Lite FM's Broadway in Bryant Park 2012" - a lunchtime series that began last week, July 12 at 12:30 p.m. on the Bryant Park Stage. Sponsored by Resorts World Casino New York City and hosted by Lite FM's on-air personalities, the twelfth annual presentation of open-air, On- and Off- Broadway lunch hour performances will run through August 16.

Christian Borle, who won a 2012 Tony Award for his role as 'Black Stache' in PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, departed his role for the filming of season two of NBC's SMASH last week. The rousing musical Irving Berlin's CALL ME MADAM will play the Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, July 24-28. Starring Broadway darling Beth Leavel (Mrs. Sally Adams), this golden age treasure is inspired by Oklahoma City's own international socialite and ambassador Perle Mesta.

The Public Theater will begin previews on Monday, July 23 for Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's beloved musical INTO THE WOODS, the second show of The Public's 50th Anniversary season at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. Directed by Timothy Sheader with co-direction by Liam Steel, INTO THE WOODS will continue for five weeks through Saturday, August 25, with an official press opening on Thursday, August 9.

Happy Birthday Tony Kushner! Kushner's best known work is Angels in America, a seven-hour epic about the AIDS epidemic in Reagan-era New York, which was later adapted into a miniseries for which Kushner wrote the screenplay. His other plays include Hydriotaphia, Slavs!: Thinking About the Longstanding Problems of Virtue and Happiness, A Bright Room Called Day, Homebody/Kabul, and the book for the musical Caroline, or Change. His new translation of Bertolt Brecht's Mother Courage and Her Children was performed at the Delacorte Theater in the summer of 2006 starring Meryl Streep and directed by George C. Wolfe. Kushner has also adapted Brecht's The Good Person of Szechwan, Corneille's The Illusion, and S. Ansky's play The Dybbuk.

According to published reports, film producer Richard D. Zanuck, who worked on such films as THE SOUND OF MUSIC and SWEENEY TODD, passed away today from a heart attack. He was 77 years old.

Direct from a 13-city National Tour, Bring It On: The Musical begins previews on Broadway tonight July 12, and opens Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at The St. James Theatre for a 12-week limited engagement through Sunday, October 7, 2012. Robert Boyett was today made an Honorary Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of his invaluable service to British drama as both a philanthropist and a producer. British Ambassador, Sir Peter Westmacott, presented Mr. Boyett with the badge of the Order at an investiture ceremony at The British Embassy, Washington. Check out photos from the event below!
