Marlon Deleon

Marlon Deleon Marlon D. Deleon is a teacher and a theatre professional in South Bend, Indiana. Originally from California, his foray into the performing arts initially began in orchestra (violin), but he eventually earned his B.A. in Theatre Arts (Directing) from California State University, Long Beach. This educational journey included a unique intermission between high school and college, which consisted of an enlistment in the US Navy as a Nuclear Submarine Electrician’s Mate. His first full-length directorial project, Stephen Adly Guirgis’ Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train
was one of ten invited productions at the 2009 Region VIII Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF). Of the ten directors, eight were college educators, one was pursuing his MFA at the host school, and then there was Marlon, a part-time student at Diablo Valley College, a community college in Pleasant Hill, California. Since then, he has directed (LBTAC/Watts Village Theatre Company, SBCT) and acted (Shotgun Players, SBCT, The Acting Ensemble) on the west coast and the Midwest. He is also proud to have contributed to a fair amount of productions in backstage crew capacities, as any collaborative actor/director should. Marlon currently teaches full-time at Dickinson Fine Arts Academy.

For a performance run that spans multiple weekends, the first weekend is often accepted as a wrinkly weekend...acknowledging some things still need to be ironed out. Recognizing that this is the first production to open at 403 N. Main Street since Aaron Nichols stepped in as Executive Director (different from the previous alignment of a tag team Managing and Artistic Directors) also deems it necessary to say that this season was selected before Nichols took charge. He was indeed actively involved before, but to accurately evaluate his effectiveness, he would need to stay in this role through the beginning of the 2020 season (ironic, yet fitting, for a target of hindsight evaluation).
