The Singer Warsaw Festival of Jewish Culture, organized by the Shalom Foundation, returned to New York City in November for a third year of programming. Monika Chrząstowska paid homage to celebrated yet complex entertainer Wiera Gran.

Marya Zimmet’s Zimmet Time… And The Livin’s Too Easy at Don’t Tell Mama is a dose of classic cabaret. She draws on old standards as well as soft rock, and then mixes in a couple left field musical choices, making for an engaging experience.

Stephanie Chou, the composer, saxophonist, and singer, is back with a new show entitled Chinatown Dreams. The 10/23 show stayed creative and mesmerizing throughout, as it traversed sounds both old and new.

Lady Bushra is the drag persona of British comedian Amir Dean, who has a new monthly residency at Don't Tell Mama. Artemisia LeFay’s Wasted Girl is an intoxicatingly gothic ride through some of the darker manifestations of passion, from obsession to melancholy. The 9/22 show consisted entirely of original songs, and skillfully delivered on an ambitious concept through LeFay’s incredible writing and unwavering performance.

Madeline Dalton’s show at Green Room 42, I Feel the Earth Swing, is delightful both in concept and execution: Carole King's music, but jazz. Featuring a full band and many guest vocalists, she performs some of the singer-songwriter's greatest hits, a strong concept executed without a hitch. The show works whether or not you already love King.

Michael J. Walters, an award-winning actor and singer, brings his considerable talent to the Triad Theater with his latest show, entitled A Tribute to Dame Edna: Overdressed for the Apocalypse. He straddles several styles, from stand-up comedy to song to impressions, to create a memorable evening. Catch it 9/21 and 9/22 at the Triad.

Rosemary Loar, celebrating the release of her ninth CD, commanded the room at Green Room 42 on August 6th. Her new show, CORAÇĀO VAGABUNDO, shares the name of her new album. Loar shows off her versatility in this show, going from musical theater to standards to original compositions. No matter the style, Loar commands a room like few others can.

Zoë Van Tieghem, no stranger to the performing arts, gracefully strode onto the stage on June 18th, where she hosted a wonderfully gay evening at the Green Room 42. From the first note of her opening number to the final notes of the closer, she makes performing look effortless.

This was Ms Johnson’s debut performance, but as the night went on, her nervousness faded into confidence, and the confidence became joy. She clearly loves singing for a crowd, and that energy made for a great show.
