The Princess Grace Foundation-USA has announced the 2012 Princess Grace Awards, including the first such award for tap choreography in its 30-year history to tap artist Michelle Dorrance. Dorrance's award will support the creation of a new work for Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP)'s ensemble BAM!, which will premiere as part of CHRP's Windy City Rhythms program, its annual celebration of National Tap Dance Day, in May 2013.

Virtuoso guitarist and visionary composer Steve Vai will perform at Concord's Capitol Center for the Arts at 8pm on Saturday, September 15, in support of his The Story of Light, a new solo album of original material, released on August 14 (Favored Nations Entertainment).Opening for Vai will be Beverly McClellan, most recently seen as a leading contestant on NBC's The Voice. East West Players (EWP), the nation's largest producing organization of Asian American artistic work and the longest-running professional theatre of color in the country, opens its 47th Anniversary season, themed Spirited Away, with the critically-acclaimed dance theatre production ENCOUNTER. Previews run September 6-9, and the performance run continues through October 6, 2012.

Craig Smith, Managing Partner of the new Alhambra Theatre & Dining, announced this morning that its current show, 'Hank & My Honky Tonk Heroes' will be extending another week, to run through August 26 rather than August 19th. The show, which opened on July 24, has been steadily attracting bigger audiences. Smith wanted to accommodate the guests who weren't able to see the show during its scheduled run because of summer vacations and busy schedules.
