La vida de Lazarillo de Tormes y de sus fortunas y adversidades was a pioneering book in many ways, and not just because it was published in 1554, barely 100 years after the printing press was invented. At a time when heroes and leaders were always portrayed as wealthy, refined noblemen, Lazarillo was the first picaresque novel (picaresco) - one that revolved around a poor man, a charming rogue (pícaro) whose antics revealed the hypocrisies and flaws of Spain's most powerful people.

The Orion Ensemble's 2010-11 season concludes in May with a program featuring Mahler, Dvorák, Bolcom and Williams, as well as special guest artists. Performances take place May 1 at Fox Valley Presbyterian Church in Geneva, May 8 at Music Institute of Chicago's Nichols Concert Hall in Evanston and May 18 at Roosevelt University's Ganz Hall in Chicago.

A complex mechanical system used to set up components of the acoustical shell in Uihlein Hall malfunctioned today while the Marcus Center Staff was moving the shell into position on the stage. The shell consists of four large pieces, 2 side sections, a back wall section and a ceiling section. This shell is extremely heavy and is moved into and out of place with a sophisticated mechanical system.

Led by local Scots-American pipers, three dancers from the Gehring dance troupe floated above the city streets while unraveling themselves from Scottish Harris Tweed and tartan. In a heart-pounding display of strength and agility, Trinity dancers ages 4-18 take the stage with new choreography as well as old favorites including 'The Dawn', 'Celtic Tiger' and 'Johnny'. Special performances include Trinity II, the junior touring company, Men of Trinity and dancers fresh from the World Championships in Dublin, Ireland.
