Fifty-eight film and television writers have been named finalists for The 44 th Annual HUMANITAS Prize, it was announced today by HUMANITAS Executive Director Cathleen Young and President Ali LeRoi. The writers are nominated for their work in the 30-minute Comedy, 60-minute Drama, Children's Teleplay, Independent Feature Film, Drama Feature Film, Comedy Feature Film, Family Feature Film and Documentary categories. The HUMANITAS Prize was created to honor film and television writers whose work inspires compassion, hope, and understanding in the human family.

This morning, Film Independent announced that Aubrey Plaza (Ingrid Goes West, Legion, Parks & Recreation) will host the 2019 Film Independent Spirit Awards. The Spirit Awards are the primary fundraiser for Film Independent's year-round programs, which cultivate the careers of emerging filmmakers and promote diversity in the industry. Nominees were announced by Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians, Captain Marvel, Mary Queen of Scots) and Molly Shannon (Divorce, Private Life, Other People) at a press conference on November 16. GKIDS, the acclaimed producer and distributor of multiple Academy Award®-nominated animated features, and Fathom Events are proud to announce the U.S. debut of “Never-Ending Man: Hayao Miyazaki.” This documentary follows the formerly-retired film director and animator Hayao Miyazaki as he experiments for the first time with CGI. Miyazaki is a Japanese film director, producer, screenwriter, animator, author, and manga artist. In 1985 he co-founded Studio Ghibli and went on to direct highly influential and acclaimed animated films such as Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and My Neighbor Totoro – which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2003. Miyazaki's critical and commercial success continued through his final run of films including Howl's Moving Castle, Ponyo, and The Wind Rises. After the 2013 release of The Wind Rises, at the age of 72, he announced his retirement from directing, however his endlessly inventive mind has turned toward new creative avenues. The documentary explores the life and career of Miyazaki as he returns to work to create his short film Boro the Caterpillar using CGI.

Today, Netflix and Millarworld announced their third comic book collaboration, Sharkey the Bounty Hunter, from writer and creator Mark Millar. Millar has named comic book artist Simone Bianchi to bring Sharkey to life on the printed page. This is the third Millarworld franchise since Mark Millar joined Netflix on staff, following the best-selling The Magic Order and the upcoming Prodigy, which is set to be released on December 5. Sharkey the Bounty Hunter will be available from Image Comics in comic book stores and online on February 20th, 2019.
