Amy Poehler has landed rights to author Rebecca Makkai's best-seller The Great Believers, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Her goal is to adapt the novel for television via her Universal Television-based Paper Kite Productions banner.

D.J. Caruso is in talks to direct Are You Afraid of the Dark?, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Paramount Players is producing the big-screen take on the 1990s anthology series.

Miranda Otto, Zoë Chao, and Zach Woods have joined the cast of Downhill, according to Deadline. They join previously announced stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Will Ferrell.

Kyra Sedgwick has partnered with Meredith Bagbyand Valerie Stadler to launch Big Swing Productions, according to Deadline.  The company already has number of film and television projects in the works. Big Swing is “committed to celebrating new heroes and amplifying bold voices, focusing on inclusive stories with heart and purpose.” 

New research by Parrot Analytics and Kagan, a media research group within S&P Global Market Intelligence, shows support for one of Netflix's most important strategic goals: To have 50% of its content be comprised of Netflix originals. According to the report, which leverages Parrot Analytics' globally standardized Demand Expressions® metric1, demand for Netflix Originals is estimated to overtake the share of demand for licensed titles by October 2019.

The 30th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) will present Olivia Colman with the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress for The Favourite at its annual Film Awards Gala. The award will be presented by her co-star in the film Emma Stone. The Film Awards Gala, hosted by Mary Hart and Entertainment Tonight, and presented by American Express, will be held on Thursday, January 3 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The Festival runs January 3-14.

The bands announced today, they have chosen to donate a portion of their ticket sales this fall to two charity organizationsclose to their hearts. FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH has donated $30,000 to VETPAW (Veterans Empowered to Protect African Wildlife). The mission of VETPAW is to end the illegal poaching of Rhinos, Elephants and other endangered species. VETPAW does this by utilizing the unrivaled skills and experience of highly trained combat veterans to form anti-poaching units, train local park rangers and support their communities. Meanwhile, BREAKING BENJAMIN has donated $30,000 to a charity they've supported for many years St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, whose mission is to help further research to end childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. With their Summer and Fall tours combined, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH and BREAKING BENJAMIN have now donated over $250,000 to charities in 2018.

The New Year brings epic adventures for Adult Swim's new animated series, Tigtone, premiering Sunday, January 13th at Midnight ET/PT. This quarter-hour series is created by Andrew Koehler and Benjamin Martian, who also serve as executive producers with Blake Anderson (Workaholics).

Starz, a Lionsgate company (NYSE: LGF.A, LGF.B), today announced it has signed Writer and Producer Heather Zuhlke (STARZ Original series 'Power,' 'Tell Me A Story,' 'Southland') to a two-year overall deal. Under the pact, Zuhlke will develop new projects exclusively for the network and join the writing staff of the drama series 'The Continental' from Starz and Lionsgate as co-executive producer. 'The Continental' is the television series adaptation of the highly successful Lionsgate film franchise John Wick, currently in development.

Nickelodeon's brand-new animated preschool series, Abby Hatcher (created and produced by Spin Master Entertainment), tells the story of a little girl with a big heart who helps her friends, the amazing and quirky Fuzzly creatures, fix their mishaps, learn from their mistakes and negotiate their emotions. Premiering Tuesday, Jan. 1, at 10 a.m. (ET/PT), in the Nick Jr. preschool block, Abby Hatcher (26 episodes) features a social-emotional curriculum highlighting empathy, compassion and problem-solving skills. Following its U.S. launch, the series will roll out on Nickelodeon's international channels and branded blocks in 2019.

IMDb has ordered two short-form comedy series, Special Skills hosted by Jay Pharoah, and Unmade, featuring comedians such as Nick Cannon, Tig Notaro, Rainn Wilson, Weird Al, Reggie Watts. Both shows are produced by Electus' Big Breakfast and are set to launch in early 2019, according to Deadline.

Production has begun on the HBO Documentary Films presentation NATALIE WOOD: WHAT REMAINS BEHIND, a documentary about the legendary actress, it was announced today by HBO. The feature-length film will explore Wood's life and career through the unique perspective of her daughter, Natasha Gregson Wagner, and others who knew her best.
