George Tillman, Jr., the director of 'The Hate U Give,'' has signed a first-look producing deal with 20th Century Fox Television, according to Variety. The deal gives the studio a first look at any TV projects he and his production company State Street Pictures create, develop or supervise. 

Patti LuPone will return to the film world in the historical epic, 'Cliffs of Freedom' with Christopher Plummer. The film depicts the start of the Greek War of Independence in 1821 and is directed by Van Ling, who co-wrote the screenplay with Marianne Metropoulos and Kevin Bernhardt.

Veteran comedy screenwriting partners Lowell Ganz & Babaloo Mandel, known for such acclaimed box-office hits as Splash and Parenthood, have been named the recipients of the Writers Guild of America West's 2019 Laurel Award for Screenwriting Achievement, presented to Guild members who have “advanced the literature of motion pictures and made outstanding contributions to the profession of the screenwriter.”

The Athena Film Festival (AFF) at Barnard College announced today its film slate, including opening night, closing night, and centerpiece films, as well as additional programming for the 2019 festival. Disney Channel has ordered a second season of the high-flying animated series 'Star Wars Resistance' for a fall 2019 premiere. The series follows Kazuda Xiono ('Kaz'), a young pilot recruited by the Resistance for a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order. Season one continues on SUNDAY, JAN. 13 (10:00-10:30 p.m. EST/PST), on Disney Channel and DisneyNOW. The mid-season one trailer for 'Star Wars Resistance,' featuring a first look at a major villain from 'The Force Awakens,' was released today on the Star Wars YouTube page.

Today, alt-country legends The Long Ryders share their latest track 'Greenville' from the forthcoming album Psychedelic Country Soul, available February 15 on Omnivore Recordings. This is the band's first new album in over thirty years, and features the classic line-up of Sid Griffin, Stephen McCarthy, Tom Stevens and Greg Sowders.
