National Museum of American Jewish History Presents 'Sara Berman's Closet'March 7, 2019The National Museum of American Jewish History (NMAJH) is pleased to announce its next special exhibition Sara Berman's Closet: a small and monumental story by Maira Kalman and Alex Kalman. An installation of one immigrant woman's belongings as re-created by Sara's daughter and grandson - the acclaimed artist and writer Maira Kalman and designer and curator Alex Kalman - the project will feature the Museum's first-ever public art installation on its Kimmel Plaza, on the corner of 5th and Market Streets. An accompanying art exhibition will continue in the Museum's special exhibition gallery, featuring new paintings by Maira Kalman and new sculptures by Alex Kalman and will include interventions throughout the core exhibition, as well as in-person appearances by the Kalmans throughout the run. Sara Berman's Closet will be on view April 5 through September 2, 2019.

The Smoking Flowers Announce New LPMarch 7, 2019The Smoking Flowers, made of East Nashville-based artists Kim and Scott Collins, have shared new track “(Still) Here For You Now,” the lead single off their forthcoming album Snowball Out of Hell. The acoustic album, set for release on June 21st, follows 2018's rock-oriented Let's Die Together; both albums will be released together as a deluxe double album digitally and on vinyl. '(Still) Here For You Now,' one of two tracks that appears on both albums, is the reimagined version of 'Here 4 U Now' which is featured on Let's Die Together. Both albums were conceived during Kim's battle-and later triumph-over an aggressive form of breast cancer.

Yevgeny Kutik Launches Commissioning and Recording Project 'Meditations on Family'March 7, 2019Russian-American violinist Yevgeny Kutik, known for his “dark-hued tone and razor-sharp technique” (The New York Times), has launched a new commissioning and recording project titled Meditations on Family via Marquis Classics. Kutik has commissioned eight composers to translate a personal family photo into a short musical miniature for violin and various ensemble. He envisions the project as a living archive of new works inspired by memories, home, and belonging. Each track has been released digitally weekly, and the full EP CD, produced by four-time Grammy winner Jesse Lewis, will be released on March 22, 2019. Kutik will make his Kennedy Center debut presented by Washington Performing Arts on April 23, performing selections from Meditations on Family and his previous project, Music from the Suitcase.
