Nearly half a decade has somehow elapsed since the last Flying Lotus album—the Grammy-nominated cadaver tetris of You're Dead! During that intermission, the multi-disciplinary Los Angeles artist has remained in constant orbit, collaborating with Kendrick Lamar on the classic To Pimp a Butterfly, directing and writing the Sundance-premiered comic horror hallucination Kuso, and producing much of Thundercat's Drunk. He's also nurtured his Brainfeeder imprint into the most consistently innovative record label of the decade. Yet throughout that span, there was the matter of his next full-length statement.

New Amsterdam and Nonesuch Records will release composer-performer Daniel Wohl's album Etat on May 31, 2019. The album features electro-acoustic pieces written by Wohl, and includes guest performances by Poliça's Channy Leaneagh with co-production bySon Lux's Ryan Lott and mmph. Etat, recorded with members of yMusic and Calder Quartet, is the third release in a new partnership between the two record labels, established with the goal of enabling contemporary American composers to realize creative ambitions that might not otherwise be achievable.

After EXIT held its No Sleep Brazil party in Sao Paulo in D-Edge, it's time for the Brazilians to return the favour and conquer the Petrovaradin Fortress for one night. #NSNS2019 will be visited by British techno producer Blawan, the exquisite Italian musician Giorgia Angiuli (and her compatriots from currently one of the most sought-after electronic duos 999999999) in their conquest of the Petrovaradin Fortress. D-Edgeresidents will be led by the founder of the club, Renato Ratier, backed by South American heroine BLANCAh and Serbian-Brazilian duo Duc in Altum. One of the central slots will be taken by local performers and No Sleep residents, Lag and Monosaccharide, in their first joint ever “live” set.

RESISTANCE Ibiza is ready to storm the White Isle for its 2019 season. After only recently wrapping up the debut of RESISTANCE Island at the 21st edition of Ultra Music Festival in Miami, the DJ Awards' winner for Ibiza Night 2018 has unveiled the season calendar for its third summer on the island. The loaded nine-week residency will launch with its Opening Party on 23 Jul and take place every Tuesday at Privilege Ibiza until its colossal Closing Party on 17 Sep. 

Haybaby, the powerhouse trio fronted by vocalist/guitarist Leslie Wong, are returning with their new full-length They Get There, due out June 7 on Tiny Engines. The record finds the band confronting a range of forceful emotions, with songs addressing abusive relationships, violence against women, and Wong's grief over losing her father to cancer. The Fader premiered the album's first single 'Total Bore' today, writing, 'The song begins as a tangle of guitar loops and triumphantly swells into a waterfall of a hook... if 'Total Bore' is any indication, a sense of tenderness towards themselves and the world is still in abundance.'

 THE FLAMING LIPS release their 15th studio album, King's Mouth: Music And Songs (Warner Bros. Records), on all formats on July 19th; black vinyl, CD and digitally worldwide. As previously announced, King's Mouth was released as a limited edition gold color vinyl pressing for Record Store Day this past weekend in an edition of 4,000. All copies are now sold out.

Before the Thursday and Friday concerts, enjoy free pre-show music in the Argyros Plaza by local guitar students from 6:30-7:45 p.m. Before the Saturday show, popular YouTube guitar teacher Marty Schwartz of "Marty Music" will be hosting and curating a free 2-hour celebration of guitar in popular music, along with special guests, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This guitar festival includes a recital with Sainz-Villegas at 4 p.m. on May 4 in the Samueli Theater's intimate setting.
