The Toronto International Film Festival​®​ has announced the 10 eclectic films that will make up this year's Midnight Madness lineup. Nell Benjamin and Laurence O'Keefe, creators of Legally Blonde: The Musical, are currently in the works on an untitled comedy musical at Universal, according to Deadline. The duo will write the songs and screenplay for the film.

To say that Alberta musician Leeroy Stagger's life journey has followed a strange path would be a bit of an understatement. A celebrated artist for nearly two decades and 10 years sober, he gained national attention with Hot Hot Heat and Carolyn Mark and has built a world class recording studio. A lush reflection of his life's evolution, Strange Path is the title of his newest album and book, due out September 13 via True North Records. Hardly Strictly Bluegrass keeps the lineup announcements rolling this week. Through their traditional “artist medley” teases, fans were treated to a sneak-peek audio clip of unannounced artists on HSB's social media accounts earlier in the week. Today, HSB revealed ten new artists who will join the twenty previously announced artists for the festival in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park this October 4-6.

The North Fork TV Festival announced Golden Globe nominee Constance Wu as this year's Ambassador for the Arts recipient. A formal ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 5 at the Greenport Theatre in Greenport, NY.

Following on the momentum of her brief US debut tour in March, 2019, Berlin's “Lynchian”* nightingale Laura Carbone heads back to North America with her band in mid-September for an extensive cross-country tour kicking off in Los Angeles and culminating at the end of the month with various dates across Canada. The tour will draw on material from her highly acclaimed 2016 debut album 'Sirens' and the rapturously received 2018 follow-up LP, 'Empty Sea'.

Detroit Rock veterans Kaleido have released a new EP 'NO RLY...IM FINE' - a deeply personal and emotional collection about mental health issues.  The song was co-produced with Michael Martenson & Jake Cemer (Boys of Fall).  The band played to more than 20,000 people at the Van's Warped Tour 25th anniversary show in Atlantic City, New Jersey on June 29th, with more dates coming soon.  

Toadies have enlisted Steve Albini to record their eighth studio album, the session scheduled for early 2020 in Chicago. Bassist Doni Blair refers to Albini as a “bucket list producer.” Guitarist Clark Vogeler adds “There are records in each of our collections that were recorded by him which mean the world to us.  The sound he brought to records likeThe Pixies' Surfer Rosa, and PJ Harvey's Rid of Me, capture the feeling of being in a room with a band while they play (quite loudly, it would appear).  A personal fave, Wedding Present'sSeamonsters saved me in a way that no other record has.  The emotion of the songs just pours out of the speakers.  His recordings of bands are honest; there's not much in the way of Pro Tools fixing (he records to tape) or studio trickery (no autotune in sight!).  It's mostly just a band in a room with microphones, playing the songs, and that appeals to us at this point.  We've always felt like we could deliver live, so why not record the band live?”
