Obama, Bieber in Town Today; Times Square Bottleneck Expected Throughout the EveningJune 23, 2011As previously reported, President Barack Obama has chosen SISTER ACT for his first Broadway fundraiser of his re-elction campaign. The event, which will be held today, will be hosted by SISTER ACT producer Whoopi Goldberg. Tickets for the special performance range from $250 to $10,000 (the latter of which includes a photo shoot with the President). Also while in town, Obama will host a second fundraiser with the gay community. Justin Bieber will also be in town for promotional appearances, further adding to the expected traffic gridlock in midtown today.

A.C.T.'s TALES OF THE CITY Extends Again Through 7/31June 21, 2011American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) adds an additional week of performances to its world premiere production of Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City, which continues to break sales records. The world premiere musical amassed the largest advance sale in A.C.T.'s history prior to its first preview performance on May 18 and continues to break sales records throughout its sold-out run. Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City will now run through July 31, 2011, at the American Conservatory Theater (415 Geary Street, San Francisco). The added performances are July 26-31, 2011: 8 p.m. performances Tuesday through Sunday and 2 p.m. matinees on July 30 and 31.
Regine & Terrence Currier Will Not Transfer to Broadway with Kennedy Center's FOLLIES; Rehearsals Begin Aug. 5June 21, 2011As previously reported, The Kennedy Center's all-new, critically-acclaimed production of James Goldman and Stephen Sondheim's Tony Award-winning musical FOLLIES will transfer to Broadway this summer. FOLLIES will play a limited engagement at the Marquis Theatre, with dates to be announced shortly. Rehearsals, it has just been revealed, will begin on August 7, 2011.
While an official casting announcement is forthcoming, including a detail of those who will be transferring with the production, a casting notice out today indicates that the roles of Salange La Fitte (played in the Kennedy Center by Régine), Hattie Walker (Linda Lavin), and Theodore Whitman (Terrence Currier) are open. Linda Lavin's departure was reported last week upon the announcement that she would simultaneously be starring in THE LYONS at the Vineyard Theatre.

STAGE TUBE: Julianne Hough - 'ROCK OF AGES cast is amazing!'June 21, 2011In the midst of finishing up Footloose and filming Rock of Ages in Miami, Julianne Hough found some time to support the American Humane Association at the VA Medical Center in Manhattan, giving a concert for patients with therapy dogs. While on hand, Hough helped launch the American Humane Association's voting campaign for the inaugural 'Hero Dog Awards.' CESAR Canine Cuisine will be making donations to the American Humane Association for each vote cast for a favorite dog hero at www.HeroDogAwards.org, helping to promote the use of therapy dogs to those in need.
Hough spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the project, making sure to also reiterate how much fun the cast and crew are having in Miami on the ROCK OF AGES set.
