With direction by Matt Shakman, the five-member cast features Amy Aquino as Joanne Lipman, Bill Brochtrup as Bradley, John Glover as Martin Kerner, Mark Nelson as Peter Lipman and Noah Robbins as Andrew Lipman. The Hollywood Reporter reveals today that Angela Bassett will join Precious star Paula Patton in wedding-themed film, Jumping the Broom. The comedy will be directed by Salim Akil under the Columbia banner. Laz Alonso, Loretta Devine and Romeo Miller round out the cast. Filming begins in Canada next month.

Dallas Theater Center opened IT'S A BIRD...IT'S A PLAN...IT'S SUPERMAN, starring Matt Cavenaugh as Clark Kent/Superman and Patrick Cassidy as arch-villain Max Menken on June 18, 2010. Presently, there are dozens of sites that make available sheet music (including that written by Brown) for 'trade,' essentially allowing a prospective downloader to request sheet music copies of their choice for free.

As BroadwayWorld has previously reported, the 2008 Tony and Grammy Award-winning Best Musical In The Heights welcomes 19 Recordings/Jive Records platinum recording artist and 2007 'American Idol' winner Jordin Sparks as Broadway's new Nina Rosario on August 19, 2010. 20 year old Jordin Sparks will be making her Broadway debut, playing a limited 12 week engagement through Sunday, November 14, 2010. During a Monday night concert, June 28, at House of Blues, Sparks surprised the audience with a teaser of her performance to come, singing 'Breathe' from In The Heights.

As BroadwayWorld has reported, producer Cameron Mackintosh will present a 25th Anniversary production of LES MISERABLES this fall. Together with the current production at the Queen's Theatre in the West End and a 25th Anniversary concert of the show in the works, this new production - which will play the Barbican Theatre - will mark the first time 3 renditions of the same show has run simultaneously in the UK. The 25th Anniversary production will tour the US beginning this fall.

As BroadwayWorld has previously reported, the musical version of Helen Fielding's popular novel, 'Bridget Jones's Diary,' is in the works with aspirations to open in the West End. Fielding is working with British recording artist Lily Allen and Greg Kurstin on the musical's score and lyrics and is working on the book with assistance from Julian Webber. Stephen Daldry, the director of BILLY ELLIOT, directed the recent workshop alongside Webber and choreographer Peter Darling; Working Title is producing the project.

Artistic Director Nicholas Martin has announced the casting for the next three productions of the Williamstown Theatre Festival's 2010 Season: Our Town by Thornton Wilder, playing the Main Stage July 28 - August 8, Fifth of July by Lanford Wilson playing the Main Stage August 11 - 22, and the world premiere of After the Revolution by Amy Herzog on the Nikos Stage July 21 - August 1.

Production has begun in London on Academy Award®-winner Martin Scorsese's adventure film Hugo Cabret. The live-action film, to be photographed in 3D, stars Academy Award®-winner Ben Kingsley (Shutter Island), Sacha Baron Cohen (Bruno), Asa Butterfield (The Boy in the Striped Pajamas), and Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass).

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson) announced today that Director of Special Projects Maria Goyanes will assume the position of Associate Producer, effective September 1, 2010. Goyanes has been on staff at The Public since 2004 and was instrumental in launching the theater's successful Public LAB series.

Producers Jed Bernstein and Adam Zotovich announced today that Tony Award-winners James Earl Jones and Vanessa Redgrave will return to the New York stage this Fall to star opposite one another in the Broadway Premiere of Alfred Uhry‘s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Driving Miss Daisy. Directed by David Esbjornson (The Goat, Or Who Is Sylvia?), Driving Miss Daisy will begin performances on October 7, 2010, at the John Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street), with an official opening on Monday, October 25, 2010.

The 31st Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards for the 2009/2010 season were handed out in a star-studded ceremony on the evening of Monday, June 28 at Toronto's in the Bluma Appel Theatre of the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, hosted by the celebrated CBC Radio host Jian Ghomeshi. The Dora Mavor Moore Awards are produced and presented on behalf of the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) and celebrate excellence in Toronto theatre, dance and opera. The 225 Dora-eligible shows opened between June 1, 2009 and May 31, 2010. A total of 35 Dora Awards plus the Silver Ticket Award, the Pauline McGibbon Award and the Audience Choice Award were given out.

Luis Salgado choreographs Jaradoa Theater's new musical I'll Be Damned while continuing his run in the Tony Award winning Best Musical In the Heights. The Broadway community mourns the loss of John Willis, the former editor in chief of both Theatre World and its companion series Screen World and longtime producer of the Theatre World Awards. He died last week at age 93 from complications from lung cancer. The marquees of Broadway theatres in New York will be dimmed in his memory on Wednesday, June 30, at exactly 8:00pm for one minute.

Papermag.com reports that Broadway favorite Cheyenne Jackson will be joining the cast of HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm for several episodes next season. Jackson reportedly broke the news to the site himself at his Celebrity Autobiography appearance on Saturday.
