Bassett Joins Patton for 'Jumping the Broom' FlickJune 30, 2010The Hollywood Reporter reveals today that Angela Bassett will join Precious star Paula Patton in wedding-themed film, Jumping the Broom. The comedy will be directed by Salim Akil under the Columbia banner. Laz Alonso, Loretta Devine and Romeo Miller round out the cast. Filming begins in Canada next month.

Presently, there are dozens of sites that make available sheet music (including that written by Brown) for 'trade,' essentially allowing a prospective downloader to request sheet music copies of their choice for free.

Daldry & Allen Workshop BRIDGET JONES Musical; Aiming for West End in 2011?June 30, 2010As BroadwayWorld has previously reported, the musical version of Helen Fielding's popular novel, 'Bridget Jones's Diary,' is in the works with aspirations to open in the West End. Fielding is working with British recording artist Lily Allen and Greg Kurstin on the musical's score and lyrics and is working on the book with assistance from Julian Webber. Stephen Daldry, the director of BILLY ELLIOT, directed the recent workshop alongside Webber and choreographer Peter Darling; Working Title is producing the project.

Win 2010 Dora AwardsJune 29, 2010The 31st Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards for the 2009/2010 season were handed out in a star-studded ceremony on the evening of Monday, June 28 at Toronto's in the Bluma Appel Theatre of the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, hosted by the celebrated CBC Radio host Jian Ghomeshi.
The Dora Mavor Moore Awards are produced and presented on behalf of the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) and celebrate excellence in Toronto theatre, dance and opera. The 225 Dora-eligible shows opened between June 1, 2009 and May 31, 2010. A total of 35 Dora Awards plus the Silver Ticket Award, the Pauline McGibbon Award and the Audience Choice Award were given out.

Broadway Lights Dim for John Willis, 6/30June 29, 2010The Broadway community mourns the loss of John Willis, the former editor in chief of both Theatre World and its companion series Screen World and longtime producer of the Theatre World Awards. He died last week at age 93 from complications from lung cancer. The marquees of Broadway theatres in New York will be dimmed in his memory on Wednesday, June 30, at exactly 8:00pm for one minute.
