The Mercury Theatre’s panto is back, this time flying us past the second star on the right and straight on ‘til morning!

As Halloween creeps closer, things are starting to get spooky. And, following a sell-out tour in 2023, Ghost Stories by Candlelight is back for More.

“In death we are the same” – a phrase which Kelly Jones’ captivating play (…within a play… within a play) beautifully dissects. My Mother’s Funeral: The Show was first developed by Jones through the Mercury Theatre’s Playwrights Development Programme, before being picked up through an open call by Paines Plough. Now, following a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, My Mother’s Funeral returns to the Mercury’s Studio for a limited time, before continuing its tour across the country.

Micheál Mac Liammóir’s critically acclaimed one-man show delves into the Wild(e) world of the renowned literary genius. Published in 1961, Liammóir’s play has gained international success on both stage and screen, and the production has now arrived at Reading Rep, upon the doorstep of the infamous Reading Gaol.

Christmas has arrived at the Oxford Playhouse, with the return of its beloved annual pantomime, and this year, director Toby Hulse brings us Jack and the Beanstalk. Written by Jack Counsel, this magical fairy tale takes adventure to a whole new level – quite literally.

Created by award-winning writer Emma-Louise Howell as part of the Mercury’s playwriting programme in 2021, I Really Do Think This Will Change Your Life is a bold new solo performance now making its professional debut at the Mercury Theatre, Colchester.

Joe Calarco’s electrifying interpretation of the legendary star-crossed lovers is nothing short of excellence. While mainly recited in its original Shakespearean form, Calarco brings a fresh take on the tragedy, through a modern setting and intertwining of a queer narrative.
