Wright State University Theatre concludes its 43rd season in the Festival Playhouse with the Tony Award-winning musical: The Mystery of Edwin Drood, running from March 15th - April 8th. The Mystery of Edwin Drood is a musical inspired by the unfinished novel by Charles Dickens. Drood became a Broadway smash hit, winning Tony's for Best Musical, Best Book and Best Score - all by Rupert Holmes in a tour-de-force creation.

The weather has been dreary and we could all use a few hours of laughter in our lives. Right now, you are on your phone or your computer, reading this review.  Pause and just go ahead and buy your tickets now to see the national tour of SOMETHING ROTTEN at the Schuster Center before it leaves Dayton after this week's performances.  You will not be disappointed.

If you have never been to Springboro to visit La Comedia Dinner Theatre, now is the time.  Their current production of THE COLOR PURPLE is phenomenal and not to be missed.

In the last week, I have been able to check off two of my theatre bucket list items.  One was to see a professional production of CHESS, which I was able to see at the Kennedy Center in its limited run last week.   The second, I checked off Saturday night at the Human Race Theatre Company at its fundraising event ONE NIGHT WITH REBECCA LUKER, when I was actually able to hear Rebecca Luker sing in person.

Acting is hard.  The ability to lay yourself bare night after night, emotionally (and sometimes physically)  is something that does not come easily to most people.  Add into that the ability to react honestly to your acting partners, even though you may know their lines better than they do. Then, there is the difficult matter of comic timing.  When all of these things click, it makes for an amazing night of theatre and you feel lucky to be part of it.    You have the opportunity to experience this now, if you go to see SEX WITH STRANGERS at the Human Race Theatre Company.  

Wright State University Theatre continues its 43 rd season with a John Steinbeck novel adapted by Frank Galati The Grapes of Wrath, which will be running from February 1 st - 11 th in Wright State University's Festival Playhouse.

I love a good mystery.  It is my favorite genre.  Beavercreek Community Theatre's production of AND THEN THERE WERE NONE, Agatha Christie's most successful novel as adapted for the stage,  did not disappoint me.  

Going into the Mathile Theatre on Saturday night, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. I am not overly familiar with The Who's music but I do remember that my older brother had a copy of the Tommy album back in the 70's. I also think that I may have actually played pinball on a Tommy machine. Consequently, my mind was a pretty clean slate and I was ready to enjoy the evening.

I know. It is cold in Dayton right now. It is a great time to see a play or a musical and there is something for every theatrical taste in Dayton in January. Brave the cold and go see a show.
