The Masque Theatre is an icon of Muizenberg and the Cape Town community theatre world. 2020, as was the case for so many theatres around the world, has been a hard one for the Masque.

We are reaching the end of 2020 and we could probably all use a really good laugh! That's why we're chatting to Nicola Date, one of the comedians who will be entertaining the audience at COMEDY NEAR THE LESS FLIPPEN COLD SEA at Masque Theatre.

THE SYRINGA TREE is a 2019 Standard Bank Ovation Award winner at the National Arts Festival. I was lucky enough to catch a performance at NAF and this production blew me away. It's a very good thing that this production is coming to Cape Town now and more people will get a chance to see this beautiful piece of theatre.

What an absolute treat to see an amazing South African performer standing centre stage and showing us all of her incredible talent, all the while knowing how much she is also loved and respected as a performer around the world. South African born Belinda Davids has an extraordinary set of pipes on her and commands the stage as well as I imagine Whitney Huston would have done.

I am not surprised by all the glowing reviews and the three Fleur du Cap nominations VASLAV has received. Godfrey Johnson throws himself whole-heartedly into his performance and is quite mesmerising.

On Monday 7 October, audiences were treated to the opening of the Fugard's Bioscope World Arts Cinema Season for 2020. This project is now in its ninth year of running, and is really just a wonderful idea. It's not that South Africa isn't full of incredible talent and that the shows we put on here aren't world class a?" far from it! But, it is nice to see what is happening out there in the world and to get the opportunity to see some incredible live performances from big stars that many of us would have to basically bankrupt ourselves to see over in the USA or the UK.

Charles Tertiens is heading back to the stage in Cape Town with his new show: PREMIUM LIVE SHOWCASE OF COMEDY MAGIC. It's set to be a laugh a minute at the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice, but he does promise that no watches will be harmed.
