Palm Springs Art Museum is proud to present Tony-nominated vocalist Norm Lewis on Saturday, April 8 at 8 p.m. in the Annenberg Theater as part of the Museum's 2017 Broadway's Best… In the West! series.  Boasting breathtaking power and range, Lewis is best known for starring in the Broadway production of Porgy and Bess, for which he received Tony, Drama Desk, Drama League and Outer Critics Circle Award nominations. Other credits include Sondheim on Sondheim, The Little Mermaid, Les Miserables, Chicago, Amour, The Wild Party, Side Show, Miss Saigon, The Who's Tommy and Phantom of the Opera. 

The McCallum Theatre presents Art Garfunkel: In Close-Up on Friday, March 31, at 8:00pm. Blessed with what The New York Times described as a "beautiful countertenor," singer Art Garfunkel has made an indelible mark on the music world as both a solo artist and half of the unrivaled Simon & Garfunkel. He has also enjoyed a successful film career, published a book of poetry, and released 12 solo albums. 

Originally directed and choreographed by directing and dancing legend Bob Fosse, Sweet Charity at the Palm Canyon Theatre is focused on bringing that Fosse style to Palm Springs. Choreographer Stephanie Eley, a stage veteran, is sharing her expertise with dancers from various studios across the valley and many College of the Desert students. Eley was in the original Broadway cast of Dreamgirls and My One and Only, and performed in the national and international tours of A Chorus Line from 1977-1980. With dance number after dance number, this is sure to be a show not to be missed as PCT winds down its 20th Anniversary Season.

Tony-nominated singer MARY BRIDGET DAVIES' journey began in her hometown of Cleveland, OH in 2001 when she first started singing in local bands, and she hasn't slowed down since. The powerhouse rock and blues singer's love of music was instilled by her parents, who raised her on a healthy diet of the Allman Brothers Band, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Joe Cocker and, naturally, Janis Joplin.

Humorist Jeanne Robertson is bringing her 'Fabulously Funny' tour to the McCallum Theatre on Monday, March 27, at 7:00pm. An overnight success nearly half a century in the making, Jeanne Robertson keeps audiences rolling on the floor with laughter.  At 71 years young, this former Miss North Carolina stands tall at 6'2' and has a personality, heart and sense of humor that soar just as high. For years, her witty speeches were mostly limited to conventions and meetings, but with the dawn of the digital age, the world became exposed to her infectious humor when her YouTube videos suddenly went viral. 

The McCallum Theatre Concert Band returns for its 5th annual performance on Sunday, March 26, at 3:00pm. This year's program with Gershwin's classic 'An American in Paris' will be conducted by McCallum Theatre President and CEO Mitch Gershenfeld. It's an afternoon performance for the entire family with 40 of Hollywood's finest musicians playing stirring marches, band classics and popular tunes. This year's guest conductor Sylvia Gregoire will conduct the 'Stars and Stripes Forever March' by John Philip Sousa. And, of course, there is free ice cream for everyone after the show.

The Desert Symphony, under the direction of Music Director Gary Berkson, is celebrating its 28th Anniversary with a Gala and Concert starring the incomparable LeAnn Rimes. The event will take place on Saturday, April 1, 2017, 8pm at The McCallum Theatre. In addition, the Desert Symphony will be honoring Ruta Lee, whose career has included both stage and screen, with the Amadeus Award for her philanthropy and dedication to the Performing Arts. She is the first woman to receive this prestigious award and joins the ranks of Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, John Tesh, Jack Jones, Ted Giatas, and last year's recipient Harold Matzner.

The McCallum Theatre presents the Malandain Ballet Biarritz and their performance of Beauty and the Beast on Monday, March 20, at 8:00pm. This new production of Beauty and the Beast, with music by Tchaikovsky, brings the brilliant Malandain Ballet Biarritz to the McCallum stage. The rich and complex symbolism of this tale known by all was a rich source of inspiration for choreographer Thierry Malandain. Malandain Ballet Biarritz is part of the National Choreographic Centre in Biarritz, France.

If you thought YOU'RE family was strange --- the Palm Canyon Theatre introduces audiences to an extremely eccentric family, the Vanderhof-Sycamore-Carmichael clan, as the regional repertory theatre presents You Can't Take It With You, March 16-19. The classic comedic play, by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, won the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. In 1938, the adapted film won the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Director, Frank Capra.

A new collaboration between the one-of-a-kind culinary event company PS Underground and Pete's Hideaway has unveiled a new addition to the Palm Springs entertainment scene: CLUB ROUGE, a secret, underground nightclub and showroom.  The grand opening was last Saturday when PS UNDERGROUND presented the "Lost Cherry Cabaret," a late-night, sultry nightclub show patterned after the "Kit Kat Club" in the musical "Cabaret" and harkening back to the dark, provocative cabaret clubs of the 1920s and 30s.  The room was full to capacity and the performers received a well-deserved standing ovation as they dazzled the audience with music of many genres, each performed with a twist on the expected.

The McCallum Theatre presents John Cleese for two performances, Sunday, March 12, at 3:00pm and 7:00pm. Britain's living legend of comedy, John Cleese, hits the road for laughs and a leisurely walk through his life. Sharing stories from his autobiography So, Anyway…, the co-founder of Monty Python talks about how he became a celebrity despite having some talent. It's the life of Britain's most revered and ridiculous son, a not-to-be missed journey from impropriety to notoriety.  John Cleese is both a versatile comedic actor and a leading business motivator. With the legendary British comedy series "Monty Python's Flying Circus" and "Fawlty Towers" and films, including The Holy Grail, The Meaning of Life, The Life of Brian and A Fish Called Wanda, he created a unique comedic style that has inspired countless writers and comedians.

The California Desert Chorale (CDC) is proud to present 'We've Got Ritmo' for its upcoming spring concert. This vibrant programis divided into two distinctly different halves, which compliment each other quite nicely.  ACT 1 will feature dynamic, percussive choral music of Latin America, with driving, rhythmic music of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico by Oscar Escalada, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Ariel Ramirez.  ACT 2 is devoted exclusively to the extraordinary music of the legendary composer and pianist George Gershwin, including such classic favorites as 'I Got Rhythm', 'Love Is Here to Stay', 'Fascinatin' Rhythm' and 'Someone to Watch Over Me.' The program will culminate with a dazzling medley of songs from Gershwin's only opera, Porgy and Bess. 

The McCallum Theatre presents Suzanne Somers on Saturday, March 11, at 8:00pm. Suzanne has played Las Vegas for 36 years and recently completed a two month residency at the Westgate Resort & Spa, formerly the Las Vegas Hilton, where she spent three years in the 80s. People who have never seen her on stage in Las Vegas have no idea that she sings, she dances and she's really funny. But, all you really have to know is that she was chosen to be "Las Vegas Female Entertainer of the Year," which means that every member of the audience comes away from Suzanne's show with a big smile on their faces.

Coyote StageWorks, the Coachella Valley based award-winning Actors' Equity professional theater company will conclude its 2016-2017 theatrical season with a production of 'The Lady With All the Answers,' a popular one-woman play that will feature Coachella Valley favorite Gloria Loring as she portrays the beloved American advice columnist Ann Landers.

From the legendary Folies Bergere to the Ziegfeld Follies of Broadway to the Fabulous Palm Springs Follies, the theatrical revue has been a staple of entertainment for well over 100 years. The McCallum pays tribute to these wonderful performers with its own Vaudeville variety show. The McCallum's Second Annual Tribute to the Follies stars John Davidson and Ann Hampton Callaway, and features The Olate Dogs, David & Dania, Mark Schiff, Henrik Bothe, and the Follies Dancers and Follies Orchestra.

The last remaining tickets are on sale for the desert's most anticipated annual star-studded concert event, Michael Childer's 'One Night Only', benefiting Jewish Family Services Of The Desert (JFS), to be held Thursday, April 20, 2017 at The McCallum Theatre. This 10th season's theme is 'Hello Jerry' and Michael and cast pay tribute to the incomparable composer Jerry Herman, bringing to the stage music form his popular musicals including Mame, Mack and Mabel, Grand Tour, La Cage Aux Folles and, of course, Hello Dolly. 'Hello Jerry' is directed by Jason Graae with musical direction by Christopher Marlowe. I had the opportunity to sit down with Michael Childer's to talk about this special tenth anniversary production, and more. Here are a few excerpts from that conversation …

Dezart Performs is proud to announce and welcome Peter Marshall and Marietta Hartley as two additional stellar members of the ON THE AIR! cast. The fourth annual ON THE AIR! gala event benefitting the nonprofit theatre group, Dezart Performs, will be presented on-stage at the Camelot Theatres on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. This one-night only performance has become a much-anticipated event that is unique in the desert and features notable celebrity and local actors who recreate staged radio plays from the 1940s and 1950s.

In conjunction with Tommy Tune's exciting and much anticipated return of TOMMY TUNE TONIGHT to the Purple Room in Palm Springs, CA on February 24 & 25, Tune also brings his talent for bringing colors and images to life to Gallery500. Opening on February 20, is PALM-ISTRY, Tunes masterful take on palm trees depicted with the vibrancy and use of acrylics.   Painting with acrylics is all about technique as the end result can resemble a watercolor or an oil painting, having its own unique characteristics not attainable with other medias. Running through April 2, PALM-ISTRY offers fans of Tune the opportunity to own part of this rare collection of acrylics featuring silhouettes and images of palm trees that inspired this charismatic entertainer's new collection. 

Tickets are now on sale for Desert Ensemble Theatre Company's world premiere production of Lovesport. Written and directed by Tony Padilla, Lovesport presents a funny look at serious issues people face when they fall in love; a story about the cost and rewards of love and commitment. In Padilla's witty new script, middle-aged couple Josh and Marty invites home young newlyweds Gary and Ben for after-party drinks. During a night of partying tongues loosen, inconvenient truths are told, and relationships are changed.

Young opera soprano Golda Berkman of Los Angeles will be guest artist at Coachella Valley Symphony's 'Opera to Broadway - A Musical Spectacular' on Sunday, March 5. Now in its 24th year, the Coachella Valley Symphony has named the 2016-2017 season 'It's Magic' with Maestro John Mario conducting each concert. Golda made her professional opera debut at just 17 last November performing the role of Lauretta in Redlands Opera Theatre's production of Puccini's comedy, Gianni Schicchi.
