I could rave on and on about how fun it was to be outside the Omaha Community Playhouse enjoying the hits of Buddy Holly as only Billy McGuigan and his band can do. So I will.

Catchy melodies, clever lyrics, and a lot of heart go into this concoction about a waitress with a talent for baking pies and forming friendships. WAITRESS, now showing at the Lied Center for Performing Arts in Lincoln, blends just the right amount of sweet and bitter.

Hickman, Nebraska has a local treasure: The STAGE Theater. And right now you can catch the Twentieth Century Fox film turned stage musical by Patricia Resnick and Colin Higgins (book) and Dolly Parton (music and lyrics), 9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL through March 15.

Once in awhile a musical comes along that strikes the right chord. Irish musician Glen Hansard and Czech pianist Marketa Irglova collaborated on a stage version of the 2007 film by John Carney. This deceptively simple story won a Tony Award for Best Book by Enda Walsh along with 7 more wins out of 11 Tony nominations in 2012, including Best Musical, Best Orchestration, and Best Direction. Its most familiar song, 'Falling Slowly,' won an Academy Award and the cast album captured a Grammy.

This show can't miss. It has a message. It is beautifully presented. It is superbly acted. And it's gut-shaking funny.

It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience getting to watch A Thousand Words at the Nebraska Repertory Theatre this past week. The Rep has created a powerful show about the joys and sorrows of life that almost everyone can connect to.

You'd be crazy to miss this one!

Which one is he? He is Howard Dorough, known as 'Howie D,' a member of the multiple Grammy nominated, gold and platinum selling boy band, the Backstreet Boys. Because of the frequency with which he has been mixed up over the years with singers from NSYNC or Menudo, Howie has written a song entitled, 'Which One Am I?' which humorously pokes fun at the mixups. Howie, however, knows who he is.

Belgian detective Hercule Poirot (Jon Flower) needs to catch the Orient Express during a heavy snowfall. That train is never filled during this time of year, but for some reason, today is an exception. Monsieur Constantine Bouc (Gene Hinkle) exerts his authority to book his friend Poirot into his first class cabin. During the ride to London, Samuel Ratchett (Justin Eller), an insufferable American business man, is found murdered. He has been stabbed 8 times. Super sleuth Poirot undertakes solving the mystery, knowing the murderer must be one of the passengers onboard. Everyone is present and accounted for. There are no footprints in the snow. Rumors of seeing a man stalking about the train dressed in a conductor's uniform compounds the mystery. The clues are dealt one at a time begging for solution.

The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film announces a special production for the 2019-2020 season, JULIUS CAESAR by William Shakespeare. Performances are Thursday and Friday, January 23 and 24 at 7:30 pm and Saturday, January 25 at 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm. Performances are in the Lab Theatre, third floor, Temple Building, 12th & R streets.

Opera Omaha has an outstanding 2020/2021 Season in store, filled with exhilarating productions and remarkable artists. We look forward to numerous exciting debuts as well as the return of some of Omaha's favorite artists who will thrill us once again.

The Omaha Community Playhouse (OCP) production of A RAISIN IN THE SUN will open Friday, Jan. 17, 2020. The show will run in the Hawks Mainstage Theatre at OCP from Jan. 17 through Feb. 9. Performances will be held Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
