The world premiere of the powerful, intense new play 'The Royale' by Marco Ramirez opened on May 5 at the CTG/Kirk Douglas Theatre. Directed by Daniel Aukin, 'The Royale' delivers a knock-out punch with its vivid depiction of a man fighting for his place in history. 'The Royale' continues through June 2, 2013. Extending this season's hot streak of productions that make bold artistic statements, Asolo Repertory Theatre presents Noah Racey's Pulse. A song and dance celebration that harkens back to the golden age of hoofing, Pulse is written, conceived, and choreographed by Broadway song and dance man Noah Racey in collaboration with Broadway director and two-time Tony Award nominee Jeff Calhoun. Pulse opens on Thursday, May 23 with an 8 p.m. curtain. Opening night will be preceded by two preview performances on Tuesday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. and May 22 at 8 p.m. The show runs through June 16, 2013 in Asolo Rep's Mertz Theatre located in The FSU Center for the Performing Arts. Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) announces William Shakespeare's Henry VIII, the first professional Chicago production in 400 years since its debut at Shakespeare's Globe in London. Staged by Artistic Director Barbara Gaines in CST's Courtyard Theater April 30-June 16, 2013, Henry VIII features a celebrated company of artists that includes Gregory Wooddell in the title role and Christina Pumariega as Anne Boleyn. The Acting Company features an ensemble of veteran CST actors which includes Kate Buddeke, David Darlow, Kevin Gudahl, Scott Jaeck, Ora Jones, David Lively and Mike Nussbaum. Rodgers & Hammerstein's Oklahoma! premiered at Lyric Opera of Chicago Saturday, May 4. The new production, which includes the original choreography by the legendary Agnes De Mille, will have 16 performances (including seven matinees) May 4 -19 at the Civic Opera House, with tickets ranging from $32 to $153. The Old Globe today announced the complete cast and creative team for the 2013 Shakespeare Festival. Festival Artistic Director Adrian Noble returns to San Diego for his fourth and final year of Festival programming. The internationally acclaimed director will helm productions of William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice and Tom Stoppard's classic farce, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. Laurence Olivier Award-nominated director Ian Talbot will make his Old Globe debut with the enduring Shakespeare favorite A Midsummer Night's Dream. The Royal Shakespeare Company's AS YOU LIKE IT opened at Stratford's Royal Shakespeare Theatre on 24 April 2013. Featuring music from the English folk musician Laura Marling, and directed by Maria Aberg, the play follows Rosalind and Orlando, who are banished by the French court and flee to the Forest of Arden; finding romance, mischief and anarchy. As You Like It runs in rep until 28 September 2013.
