Florida Grand Opera has announced the productions for the 2011-2012 season, which will be the Company's 71st consecutive season of producing grand opera in South Florida. The season includes two important 'firsts' for FGO: the first presentation of a zarzuela, Torroba's Luisa Fernanda, and the first production of Puccini's La rondine. The season will also include Verdi's Rigoletto and Gounod's Rom o et Juliette.

After last year's hugely successful run, tickets go on sale today for Damian Cruden's acclaimed production of The Railway Children which is returning to The Waterloo Station Theatre from 18 June until 4 September with press night on 28 June 2011. Award-winning designs are by Joanna Scotcher with lighting by Richard G. Jones, music by Christopher Madin and sound by Craig Vear. Casting for the 2011 production will be announced shortly. Set in a subway tenement apartment of the ex-con, Black, who has forcibly prevented the college professor, White, from casting himself in the path of an on-rushing subway train. Black keeps White a virtual prisoner while he probes the roots of White's suicide attempt. Black is no stranger to the violence of human nature, but his life has changed drastically since a near death experience.
