F. Scott Fitzgerald's Characters Rewrite GatsbyJune 18, 2013A new memoir by Robert Atwan has begun in Believer magazine from the perspective of Thomas Buchanan, Daisy's husband and the villain of F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel The Great Gatsby. The memoir, which is titled “That Summer, 1922: A Counter Memoir by Thomas Buchanan,” is one of a few new versions of Fitzgerald's novel to be written recently. Since the release of Baz Luhrmann's movie of The Great Gatsby has caused a spike in sales of the novel, imitations are likely on the horizon.

Stoneham Theatre Presents THESE SHINING LIVES, Now thru 6/22June 6, 2013In the 1920s and early 1930s, female factory workers, later known as radium girls, contracted radium poisoning from painting watch dials with glow-in-the-dark paint at the United States Radium Factory in Ottawa, Illinois. The women, who had been told the paint was harmless, ingested deadly amounts of radium by licking their paintbrushes to give them a fine point. Five of the workers challenged their employer in a landmark case that travelled to the US Supreme Court and established the right of individuals who contracted 'occupational diseases' to sue their employers.
