SoBe Institute of the Arts presents the World Premiere of Carson Kievman's HAMLET Soundtheater/Opera in the Little Stage Theater on Miami Beach. This provocative, sophisticated, and radically re-imagined musical setting of Shakespeare's masterpiece was the final commission by legendary producer Joseph Papp ("A Chorus Line," "Hair," etc.) for the New York Shakespeare Festival / Public Theater. Due to Papp's tragic passing soon after the work was completed, HAMLET remained unperformed, until now.

Bob Lappin & The Palm Beach Pops will "Strike Up the Band" and pay tribute to the "Fascinating Rhythm" of the amazing duo whose compositions bridged the worlds of Tin Pan Alley, Broadway, Hollywood and symphony halls around the globe. Special guest artist Lillias White, Broadway "Quadruple Crown Winner" whose achievements include Tony, Drama Desk, People's Choice and Outer Critics Awards will join The Palm Beach Pops for a six-night county-wide engagement.

This world famous musical group is made up of two groups of brothers: Nicolas and Andre Reyes, the sons of renowned flamenco artist Jose Reyes, and their cousins, Jacques, Maurice and Tonino Baliardo. They are the offspring of Spanish gypsy families that fled to France in the 1930s to escape Spain's Civil War. In 1987, The Gipsy Kings released their debut album which introduced the world to "rumba Gitano" - the sound of South American rhythm married to flamenco guitars. The Gipsy Kings have had a series of international hits, starting with the song "Bamboleo," but at heart they remain gypsies, the proud descendants of an ancient people who seduced the world with music and dance.

The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County presents four-time Tony Award nominee and Miami native Raúl Esparza in a much anticipated solo performance. As part of the 2011-12 Knight Masterworks Season Pop Series, Esparza returns to the Adrienne Arsht Center on February 11, 2012 at 8 p.m. in the John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall.

Florida Repertory Theatre announced the opening of Tru in the Florida Rep Studio Theatre, a devastatingly funny glimpse into the mind of America's icon, Truman Capote. Playing Feb. 22-Mar 17, Tru is a fascinating one-man tour-de-force starring Florida Rep favorite, Mark Chambers, as the controversial author of 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' and 'In Cold Blood.'

"Sweet Charity is one of the best musicals ever written", says Garsson, who helmed last year's BRTG hit production of Cabaret. "All the elements clicked back in 1966: Gwen Verdon, one of theater's greatest dancers, Bob Fosse, choreographer and director, and most importantly a very jazzy score by the legendary Cy Coleman. "The score, with its witty lyrics by Dorothy Fields, features such classics as Big Spender, If They Could See Me Now, and Rhythm of Life. "These are songs we sang in high school and summer camp."

This edition will spotlight eight singer-songwriting acts (7 soloists and a duo) based in the Tri-County area from ages 15 and up. Special guests will provide poetry and musical talents as well. "Dead Man's Cell Phone" is by Sarah Ruhl, one of the hottest young playwrights on today's American theater scene. She was the recipient of a MacArthur "Genius" Award, as well as a Pulitzer Prize finalist. "Cell Phone" was a hit Off-Broadway with Mary Louise Parker ("Weeds") and was one of the top five most produced plays in 2011 in regional theaters across the country. The Waterfront now brings this wonderfully vibrant piece to the Keys community. The New York Times called it "A beguiling comedy with surprising twists and turns."

Led by Miami native Robert Battle in his inaugural season as Artistic Director, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, one of the world's favorite dance companies, returns to the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County from February 23 through 26 as part of a 27-city North American Tour. Following critically-acclaimed sold out performances in New York City, Ailey's extraordinary dancers will move audiences in two special programs containing a series of premieres and new productions that launch an exciting new era in Ailey history. Ailey's Miami engagement in the Ziff Ballet Opera House, is part of the Knight Masterworks Season, Sanford and Beatrice Ziff Dance Series.

Florida Repertory Theatre announced that its popular Lunchbox Theatre Series continues in February with a make-believe adventure about the power of using your imagination. Perfect for kids of all ages, The Imaginators plays Feb. 17 and 18 at 11am in the Arcade Theatre, and the $12 admission price includes the performance, lunch and an interactive post-show workshop.
