When embarking upon her latest album, Encore, icon Barbra Streisand was inspired by one of Broadway's favorite leading men, Hugh Jackman. In her latest interview with 60 Minutes, Streisand discusses how Jackman's voice was the starting point for the album's core concept: creating 'mini scenes' through dialogue and duets with film stars. On the album, Streisand and Jackman sing the previously unproduced 'Any Moment Now' by the late, celebrated composer Marvin Hamlisch. This rendition of the song tells the story of a couple that has reached the breaking point in their marriage, and the video features clips from Streisand and Jackman's recording session for the track.

When Tony Award winners step up to the podium to give their acceptance speeches, along with parents and fellow collaborators, there is a group of people that seems to crop up in the list of 'thank yous' more than any other: educators. For most artists, they have a teacher, or professor, or mentor who they can trace back to the reason that they fell in love with the theatre in the first place. On May 16, 2016, a group of over 300 University of Michigan Alumni-led by Celia Keenan-Bolger and Gavin Creel-gathered together for a one-night-only, sold-out performance to honor the beloved long-time Musical Theatre Department Chair, Brent Wagner.

As the world continues to face dark times, members of the theatre community are choosing to respond to tragedy with art that spreads hope for the future. According to Matthew Curiano, when the cast of the Ogunquit Playhouse's production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame began rehearsing for the show, they 'found truly just how poignant, powerful, and undeniably relevant the story [they] were telling was.' As a result, several of the cast members joined together to film a video using the words of the song 'Someday,' sung by the characters Esmerelda and Phoebus in the second act of Hunchback, as a prayer for the future, and to honor the victims of the Orlando massacre at Pulse Nightclub, the police shooting in Dallas, and to Alton Sterling and Philander Castile, who were both killed by police.
The Internet knows that Lin-Manuel Miranda loves his tennis, but perhaps no match was more exciting for the Broadway powerhouse than the historic women's singles final that took place on Day 8 of the Summer 2016 Olympics. Competing against Germany's Angelique Kerber in an intense three-set match, Monica Puig pulled out a win for Puerto Rico and made history, taking home the first gold medal for the island since Puerto Rico began competing in the Olympics in 1948.
