Adrienne Onofri

Adrienne Onofri has been writing for BroadwayWorld since it was launched in 2003. She is a member of the Drama Desk and has moderated panels with theater artists on such topics as women playwrights and directors, mission-oriented theater companies, and backstage plays. Adrienne is also a freelance editor as well as a travel writer and licensed NYC sightseeing guide. Anyone who cares about theater has probably at one point or the other-or many-over the last couple of decades bemoaned the state of the musical. This once-glorious American art form has been in critical condition for some time, and we need new musicals and musical-writing talent, stat! This year one of New York City's summer theater festivals is trying to do something about it. The Midtown International Theatre Festival, in residence on West 36th Street from July 14 to August 3, is focusing on new musicals-the first time the festival has had a 'theme.'

Even when I go to London, theater is just one of the activities on my itinerary. But the last three summers, I have found myself in a summer theater destination and have been appreciating more and more the joy of taking my No. 1 pastime on the road.
