Greyfell Rises, Surprising Door CountyDecember 13, 2013Greyfell Theatre didn't exist before Thanksgiving. The Start-Up Theatre class took up residence at Bjorklunden, a retreat owned by Lawrence University up in Door County, WI. With a loose plan provided by some faculty guidance, this group of 18 students has invented a small theatre company, written a collection of ten minute plays, rehearsed and produced them. Last night they opened and managed to draw a small crowd despite being a Thursday in the off-season.

Witnessing the powerful performances of the touring cast not only hit all of those points straight to the heart, but also push the energy and fun of the music over the top makes this show something special. Memphis' music (David Bryan) is as much a character as Huey (Joey Elrose) and Felica (Jasmin Richardson).

Set in Buffalo, NY, a family has grown up around a statue of the Virgin Mary commemorating their own miracle. Through out the play the Nowaks reveal the legend of their miracle and it has unforeseen effects on the family, particularly mother Clara (Peggy Roeder) and daughter Ruth (Ellen Noel Grennan).
