Johann Nestroy and the Theater an der Wien combines a common history, which already in 1801 begins with the common "Year of Birth". From 1831 the funniest satirist of old Viennese popular theater at this house was committed as an actor and playwright with an annual salary of 1,200 guilders. On April 11, 1833, the premiere of his most famous extravaganza Lumpacivagabundus took place here. Nestroy himself gave the Knieriem, the role he has played all of his characters most often and with whom he also on March 4, 1862
adopted by the Viennese public forever.
In 1921, a production of the play at the Staatstheater Berlin premiere. The "dissolute cloverleaf" this performance - the Viennese popular actor Karl Etlinger and the Germans Fritz Hirsch and Otto Laubinger - was committed by the Viennese director Carl Wilhelm immediately for a film adaptation. As Lumpaci Vagabundus (so the spelling of the film) he hired Hans Albers. The original poster (and also the Kostümfigurinen) were from the draftsman Walter Trier, who later became known for his illustrations of children's books Erich Kaestner. Was filmed in the summer of 1922 in Berlin (studio), with exterior shots, among others in the Wachau (Kremser Tor in Dürnstein), and was to experience proven in the German, Austrian and Swedish cinemas after its completion. Now 90 years after its premiere, the negative export by the Federal Film Archive has been made available for digitization, so that they now can experience in a wonderful image quality on the screen Lumpaci Vagabundus again. The new background music comes from the young Austrian composer Florian C. Reithner.
