  3. Beethoven-Concerts | 4.Symphonie und Konzert für Violine und Orchester D-Dur (op. 61)

Ludwig van Beethoven
Symphony no. 4 in B flat major, Op. 60
Violin Concerto in D major, op. 61

"Since we have because even in the bitter cold of six-thirty until endured ten-thirty, and found proven the experience that one also of a good thing - and even more so, the Strong -. Can easily have too much" So reported the composer and writer on music Johann Friedrich Reichardt from that memorable concert on 22 December 1808 at the Beethoven a number of his works - including the 5th and 6th Symphony - "in large vorstädtschen Theater", the (unheated) Theater an der Wien, brought premiered. But at room temperature it was soon aware of the size of these two very different works that appear at the same time revolutionary new, yet classic ordered. So ruled example of Romantic poet ETA Hoffmann in the first major review of the 5th Symphony: Beethoven's music opens up "the kingdom of the monsters and immeasurable", but also proclaim "the prudent genius of the Master". Work on the fifth hat-Beethoven in 1806 interrupted only to write his Fourth Symphony, which premiered at the Palais Lobkowitz a year later. About the slow movement Hector Berlioz wrote as enthusiastic as bombastic, he resembled the sighing of the Archangel Michael in a moment of melancholy. In the same year Beethoven was working on his single completed Violin Concerto, which he, the "musical director" of the Theater an der Wien wrote for his friend, violinist Franz Clement. According to tradition, Beethoven worked until shortly before the start of the concert at his piece, so that Clement had quasi playing it by hand.
