Vienna State Opera Will Perform SUGAR REVOLUTION This Weekend

This season, as part of the Vienna State Opera's outreach program, the ensemble "CityLab" was founded - a cross-generational project in which theater enthusiasts of all ages are invited to develop their own piece and perform it in front of an audience.

On May 25, 2024, the ensemble's first musical theater performance will celebrate its premiere on the Eberhard Waechter rehearsal stage in Haus am Ring (performances at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.): Sugar Revolution . Since October 2023, the ensemble has been working on a new piece, inspired by Alexander Raskatov's opera Animal Farm and their own experiences and creative ideas on the themes of revolution, everyday resistance, the relationship between man and machine, as well as democracy, autocracy and manipulation. The arguments gave rise to a humorous, sometimes dark story that is about loss and promise and raises the questions: What am I raising my voice for? When do I get involved? When does it start to matter to me? The ensemble, consisting of 25 people between the ages of eleven and 70, is accompanied by the stage orchestra of the Vienna State Opera.
