The 2018 U.K. Writers' Guild Award-winner for "Best Play," Lucy Kirkwood's The Children will play at Vienna's English Theatre Sept. 13 through Oct. 19.
In a remote cottage on the British East coast, Hazel and Robin, a couple of retired nuclear engineers, are living a seemingly cosy and quiet life. Whilst the outside world is in chaos following a devastating series of events, Robin is farming and Hazel is practicing yoga. When Rose, an old friend, suddenly turns up at their door after decades of absence, her motives are unclear at first. What begins as intimate but slightly tense banter on relationships, parenthood and friendship, soon turns into a gripping and fierce conflict, when Rose makes an unexpected proposal that raises the stakes. Robin and Hazel's protected existence is disrupted as they are forced to consider their responsibility for the next generation.
The cast features Amanda Osborne as "Rose," Anna Kirke as "Hazel" and Mark Elstob as "Robin."
Adrienne Ferguson will direct the production with Richard Evans as the production designer.
