The musical, which is based on the 2001 Hollywood comedy with Reese Witherspoon in the leading role and on the novel of the same name by Amanda Brown, was first performed in the Palace Theatre, Broadway in 2007. After over 600 performances in New York it was exported to the West End in London in 2010, where until April 2012 it ran highly successfully at the Savoy Theatre with over 1,000 performances. LEGALLY BLONDE will celebrate its premiere in Sydney this fall 2012.
With much wordplay and charm, LEGALLY BLONDE tells the story of the American college blonde Elle Woods, who goes to Harvard in order to win back her ex-boyfriend Warner Huntington III, who is going there to study law. While she is there, Elle develops into an intelligent and emancipated law student. With her down-to-earth self-confidence and her big heart, she proves that outer appearances can often mislead. The music and lyrics were written by the Broadway acclaimed duo Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin. The script, which is full of witty wordplay and ludicrous punch lines, was written by Heather Hach.
