Presented By Tamworth Dramatic Society
BY GEOFFREY ATHERDEN
ADAPTED FOR STAGE BY EVALYN CHARALAMBOUS
This stage adaption of the hugely popular ABC television comedy of the same name examines the sometimes complex relationship between a mother, Maggie, and her son Arthur.
With a large dose of Aussie humour, Mother & Son addresses the problems of ageing, caring for an elderly parent and family relationships.
Maggie’s emotional manipulation of the long suffering Arthur is largely fueled by her fear of being left alone.
His attempts at “dating” are constantly thwarted by his mother’s cunning. His own sense of responsibility for his increasingly confused mother actually plays into her hands.
Filled with laughter, frustration and love this play handles the sensitive subject of dementia with sensitivity and wonderful humour.
