Lucia is in love with Edgardo, last of the Ravenswood clan and sworn enemy to the Lammermoor family. Her brother Enrico plans to force her into a marriage of convenience that will secure his family’s flagging fortunes. Lucia’s decision to continuously defy her wicked brother sets in motion a wedding that will have tragic and bloody consequences.
Culminating in one of opera’s most famous mad scenes and the show-stopping aria ‘ll dolce suono’, this tragic tale of star-crossed lovers will be an unforgettable theatrical experience. Complete with sweeping sets and lavish costumes, this beautifully atmospheric production from West Australian Opera is reimagined by director Cameron Menzies in Melbourne’s iconic Her Majesty’s Theatre.
Superstar soprano Jessica Pratt enchanted Australian audiences with ‘her voice of liquid gold’ in La traviata (2014) and her ‘breathtaking brilliance’ in I Puritani (2015) returns to the role which launched her to stardom, Lucia. Starring alongside Jessica Pratt is exciting new talent, tenor Carlos E. Bárcenas, a former Victorian Opera emerging artist, making his debut in a major role as Edgardo, Lucia’s lover. Together with a stellar cast, the Victorian Opera chorus and Orchestra Victoria under conductor Richard Mills, they breathe new life into this bel canto masterpiece.
