A Ukulele chorus, Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls and dance offs arent your usual suspects in a Shakespeare play except when Melbourne Shakespeare Company takes over Malverns Central Park this March with the relatable tragic comedy, Loves Labours Lost. Set at a nineteen forties yacht club and using local references, Loves Labours Lost is the perfect way to enjoy the last few weekends of summer. After one too many wild night's out, King Ferdinand and his friends promise not to date women for three years and focus on their study. Immediately after making this oath, three intelligent, sophisticated and beautiful women arrive and the mayhem begins with mismatched love letters, silly disguises and a dramatic departure. The plays director Jennifer Sarah Dean who trained at Londons Globe Theatre says, Loves Labours Lost is packed full of live music, slapstick comedy and dancing. You get to sit in a circle around the performers so it feels like youre at an intimate gig in your own backyard.Loves Labours Lost is one of Shakespeares most un-known plays and I cant wait for audiences to fall in love with the characters and get caught in the intense passion of this story. Starring Tref Gare, audiences favourite cross-dressing nurse from their 2018 sold-out season of Romeo and Juliet, and Callum Mackay as Lord Biron (The Waiting Game, Winging It) Melbourne Shakespeare Companys Loves Labours Lost promises high energy and stunning melodies when it opens at Central Park in Malvern on Saturday 2 March. Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic to enjoy in the sunshine and under the stars. Tickets start at $20 and are now available at melbourneshakespeare.com.
