EDGING is a performance piece by APHIDS that explores the intersections of queerness, popular culture, and border control through a lens that merges brutality and absurdity. Co-Artistic Director Lara Thoms collaborates with artists Sammaneh Pourshafighi and Eden Falk to examine the challenges faced by queer refugees during visa processes in Australia, often framed as playful trivia but rooted in real injustices. Pourshafighi, a queer gender-fluid Muslim refugee, engages the audience as they navigate a mix of cultural inquiries in a setting reminiscent of a trivia night. The performance highlights the uncomfortable truths of border practices while maintaining a tone of criticality and entertainment.
