From its earliest days, The Australian Ballet has held seasons of works by aspiring choreographers, nurturing the breeding ground of ballet. Over the last decade, we’ve revived the tradition with the Bodytorque season, showcasing works by emerging talents, often from within our dancers’ ranks. In 2014, the ever-popular Bodytorque makes its Melbourne debut, and the theme to inspire our budding choreographers is “DNA”. What will they have in store for us? Spawning, sporting, hidden codes – perhaps a helix twist or two?
You’ll also get a sneak peek at the development phase of Richard Cilli’s Corpus Collosium, which won our 50th Anniversary Ballet Project. Richard Cilli has choreographed for, among others, Sydney Dance Company and the ABC series Dance Academy. His brand-new work takes its inspiration from the hemispherical nature of the brain, pitting the force of reason against the power of creativity.
