There is something in the air at Westerly café today. It's 7:45am and the waitress is dishing out Bloody Mary's, the not-so-creepy man is demanding the paper (in Spanish) and ugly shoes are out. These characters are out to change their lives, and if it means resorting to Beyoncé lyrics, then so be it.
Westerly is the perfect hangover cure to the Comedy Festival this year, making its world premiere in the upstairs theatre at the Butterfly Club on 24 April. A salute Melbourne's comedy loving, café obsessed culture, this play will be sure to add some 'sassy-salt' and 'pepper-shake' to your life.
Think of it as an episode of 'Friends' when you let Pheobe take over, 'zhuzh you up' and take you out, then you both end up sitting on a balcony over your fifth glass of wine having a deep and meaningful about you're-not-quite-sure-what.
Instead, it's very early morning and two strangers navigate their 'Eternal Flame', best friends quibble over their friendship (and popular 80's songs), and the not-so-creepy man and rock-chick waitress can't help but get up in everyone's business.
Announced performers include: Lansy Feng (How I Met My Dead Husband, Ophelia Thinks Harder), Tanya Hendy (The Perfect Nonsense, A Scandal in the Weimar), Anzjuli Venter (Academy, Acting Investigations), David de Miguel (The Reveal, All About Toby), Maria Nordenberg (Sisters of War) and Dimitri Frangoulis (The Water Diviner).
Special guest appearance, Siri (The Advanced Robot, iPhone Revolution).
The production opens on WEDNESDAY, 24 APRIL 2019 and runs for four consecutive days until SATURDAY, 27 APRIL 2019. Bookings recommended.
