UATG Theatre Guild presents a student production of THE MERCHANT OF VENICE by William Shakespeare, directed by Edwin Kemp Attrill, University of Adelaide Theatre Guild Artistic Director. The show will play the Little Theatre, The Cloisters, University of Adelaide, today, 11 Aug and Tues-Sat 14-18 & 21-25 August 2012 at 7.30pm, with a matinee on Sunday 19 August at 2pm.
"If you wrong us, shall we not revenge?"
Shakespeare’s classic tale of revenge, racism, romance and cross dressing is brought vividly to life in a contemporary revitalisation performed by an ensemble of Theatre Guild tertiary students and young actors. Both hilarious and cruel, The Merchant of Venice exposes our human nature to love those we identify with, whilst persecuting those we do not understand. A fun, fast paced comedy of sex, scandal and Semitic hatred.
The cast is comprised of Matthew Agius, Alex Antoniou, Lawrence Ben, Jessica Carroll, Laurence Croft, Ronald Densley, John Dexter, Masha Ejova, Liam Ellis, Lavinia Emmet-Grey, Emma Kew, Shaez Mortimer, Sophia Simmons & Sean Watters.
