The 2010 Adelaide International Guitar Festival is pleased to announce tickets are now on sale for a rare double bill featuring two masters of the classical guitar, Manuel Barrueco and Yamandú Costa in Musica Latina on 27 November in the Festival Theatre.
Drawing on Latin influences, Musica Latina references the ‘new world' in the guitar's evolution after the Americas were discovered and explores the departure from European traditions.
Appearing exclusively at the Festival, this will be Grammy nominated Manuel Barrueco's first visit to Australia. Internationally recognised as one of the most important guitarists of our time, Barrueco's 30 year career has earned him a reputation of being a superb instrumentalist and elegant musician, having played at some of the world's major music centres and performed as a guest soloist with many of the world's most prestigious orchestras. Barrueco's recording catalogue includes over a dozen recordings, with his latest release, ‘Concierto Barroco' receiving a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Classical Recording. Yamandú Costa is already considered one of the geniuses of Brazilian music, a young guitarist who astounds with his technique. A virtuosic performer, composer and arranger, he creates his own individual style on the 7-string guitar delivering exhilarating live performances, displaying the poignant subtleties of the guitar combined with a fiery rhythmical precision,
The Adelaide International Guitar Festival is presented and produced by the Adelaide Festival Centre and will run over four days from 25 - 28 November. The Festival will be presenting some of the best guitarists from around Australia and the world, with artists crossing a range of genres and showcasing their skill, musicianship and creativity.
Over the four days and nights the Adelaide International Guitar Festival will feature more than 50 national and
International Artists in 16 performances and three Australian premieres, along with a range of free and low cost workshops, masterclasses, artist talks and panel discussions for audiences and artists alike. The Festival program will be announced in April 2010.
As part of the 2010 program the Festival recently announced an International Classical Guitar Competition. This will be an opportunity for emerging players to be heard and given exposure on an international platform with total prizes to the value of $35,000, putting it on par with the world's most prestigious competitions. The competition is open to competitors of all ages and applications for the Classical Guitar Competition are now open and close 31 March 2010.
