The 93 year-old dame, The Famous Spiegeltent, will open her doors with an Opening Night Gala on Wednesday 6 February on Arts Centre Melbourne's Forecourt. Media are invited to preview the performances at 12noon inside The Famous Spiegeltent and capture the first glimpses of her stage in 2013.
Performances segments will include:
· David Pereira from flagship circus and cabaret production The Trip performing his airborne tissue routine, twisting and turning from a dangling piece of material;· Hilarious Irish dance troupe Ponydance performing '90s-inspired dance routine complete with lyrca and colourful outfits;
· Australian circus outfit Casus performing their awe-inspiring balancing act and stacking themselves sky-high using only each other's bodies; and
· Trevor Ashley, Australia's infamous drag sensation, performing a musical number from his show I'm Every Woman in full costume - sequins, glitter and all.
Transported from venue to venue in shipping containers around the world, The Famous Spiegeltent is constructed on site at each location. It consists of about 3,000 pieces of wood, mirrors, canvas and staiNed Glass and is then detailed in velvet and brocade. Construction takes about ten to twelve hours and is supervised by two Belgian specialists. The Famous Spiegeltent will be bursting with entertainment from Wednesday 6 February - Sunday 21 April.
